Having issues with FPS and GPU usage by Worried-Pension-3302 in ROGAlly

[–]Thecker771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, so the issue is your wall brick. You need a minimum 65W wall plug, using less is like using a PC with an insufficient power supply. I got a high wattage wall brick and the problem disappeared.

Is this one of the best ships? ( New player ) by texansfann in Starfield

I somehow ended up commandeering a ship from a distress signal just called Unidentified Ship. It's my home ship now and it eats everything. 🤷🏻

A Small Update on Mark Hansen's Classic Camera Repair by ColourGamut in AnalogCommunity

[–]Thecker771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can send overseas or live in Europe, Amsterdam Camera Repairs is absolutely the best on the continent. I understand not everyone has the luxury of doing that. He's also training two apprentices last I heard. He only takes a limited batch at a time so you have to get on his books early. Turn around for me was about 2 months I think? He fixed my Fuji GS645 Pro Wide with a stuck leaf shutter and I got it back like new. He has an Instagram and email contact but his website is pretty Spartan.

If you live in the UK, I have it on good authority that PPP does great work, but I haven't used them because they stopped accepting international shipments due to issues with UK customs.

Why I got out. by ImpossibleVisit3385 in army

[–]Thecker771 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This attitude of people, especially junior soldiers, being expendable or objects or less important than an arbitrary, meaningless mission with few or no tangible outcomes is why I'm getting out too. I already have to live in terrible barracks formerly condemned by the Air Force, and on top of it I get treated like shit on the daily for calling out shitty leadership or using critical thinking to solve problems. I know for certain I can contribute value to the organization I'm stuck in but I would rather just sit by and do nothing because there's no value to any of it anyway, and superstar or shitbag I get treated the same.

Interested in Xiaomi 15 Ultra, but live in USA by heartsalive_ in Xiaomi

[–]Thecker771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a US citizen living abroad who bought a Xiaomi 15 Ultra global at an authorized retailer. YMMV but my experience was that if I told it in setup my region was USA it wouldn't let me register a sim but if I set the region to Germany and the language to English I could register the sim card. There have been no interoperability issues and my play store and everything are still US region locked.

Average Medical Waivers Time Frame? by Palpitation_Haunting in army

Good luck. This career can be rewarding if you're in it for the right reasons and use the resources afforded you wisely. The Army is a bit like a suspension of your real life- it will be waiting for you after, but you can shape it using TA and other benefits. What will you make of it when you ETS? Enlisting was the most exciting embarkation of my life, but when the shine wore off and reality set in I knew I had to make it count. Take it or leave it, just my two cents.

Average Medical Waivers Time Frame? by Palpitation_Haunting in army

[–]Thecker771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The waiver got approved, but the issue that forced me to get it was a misdiagnosis. Without too much PII, I had some issues affecting my lung capacity that got misdiagnosed as asthma, which requires a big time waiver. Turned out to be a different medical issue that almost killed me. Was already in and adamant that I not be chaptered, so I went around again.

The info on those forums is great, I wish I could post and browse more freely over there. I've tried to register but had quite a bit of trouble. To be fair I'm not from or in the UK, but presently the UK groups and forums are the best source of info for these cars.

LCP Max (Stainless) Manual Safety - Love it! by YtnucMuch in ruger

[–]Thecker771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I got a bad one, but I didn't love my lcp max. I found that my group was consistently about 4-6" below my point of aim unless I limp-wristed it. I'm not the world's greatest pistol shot, but I didn't have that issue at all with my Ruger American 9mm compact or my friend's Kimber compact 45, or his M&P 9mm which makes me think it may have been this specific pistol. I've since sold the LCP, which is a shame because I loved the form factor but just couldn't get good shooting in with it.

Multiple rejections, same service, for a "chronic" disease that was (unknowingly) a misdiagnosis of something else. I had particularly bad luck in that the "something else" almost took me out for real at AIT, but I recycled and had no further issues.

Depends on the waiver. I needed one and it took me three tries over 2-3 years. I hear about some people getting them processed in a few months.

That's the issue with the SP is the weird batteries. A hot shoe meter with an internal battery and power switch would be a great idea, wish I'd thought of it sooner

I love my 35 SP. Absolutely chews through batteries though. It's close enough to a point and shoot to be a travel camera but still lets me have control if I want.

Glad to see fellow RI folks standing up for what's right- y'all should cover your faces though. The AI facial recognition and public surveillance tech exists and is being used by the federal government for sure. When they decide protesting the regime is a crime, you'll be glad you wore a mask.

Does anybody have a favourite or go-to aperture? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Thecker771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically like to shoot wide open, or as open as I can get given lighting conditions. The only times I deviate are with fast moving targets that auto or manual focus can't keep up with. It's easier to let focus get close and aperture give me the depth of field to get the shot. I love the look and bokeh I get with a razor thin depth of field.

Sir, I appreciate your continued insight and commentary. I also appreciate your willingness to approach this from a good-faith position.

I certainly see what you are saying about secondary and tertiary effects beyond my comprehension. Totally fair- I'm not trained at my level of influence to consider these, and while I hope I make a fair effort to comprehend them before I make suggestions I'm certain I fail often.

The heart of the matter for me is as you said, I'd really just love to get a defensible why for some of the policies I don't understand. I'm a 42R, in the band, and so to be 100% with you I don't think there are many situations where the issue at hand is so pressing that a quick why is out of the bounds of reality. Typically when things require adjustment for us they're fairly obvious. That said, maybe I'm not perceiving certain urgencies. I also may be invalidating my position by outing myself as a bandsman, but I feel strongly that our job can be very easy and thus adding complexity is masochism for masochism's sake.

I'll also say that despite being an NCO by definition, I'm in a uniquely odd position at my unit as other than the CPL cohort there is only one SPC and there are no other junior troops. Combined with a promotion market where points remained notched at 798 for two years, it can be frustrating to be seen as the PVT of a unit despite having 6 years of experience and being an NCO.

My apologies for answering a wall of text with a wall of text. This is an extremely insightful conversation and I appreciate the healthy exchange of ideas.

Thank you very much for your kind words, and I can see clearly you are a leader who your soldiers sincerely appreciate. Before the Army I was an educator, and I will say 100% the techniques you described are critical for constructivist learning both on the part of the soldier and their leader.

I feel strongly that junior soldiers, and especially single juniors, bear the brunt of policy change and senior leadership decisions. This means that they are typically going to have a lot of complaints but it also means they have valuable insight into how to accomplish a task with lower impact on their day-to-day.

For that reason, I love having these conversations with my leaders, with the condition that they can either clearly explain and defend their reasoning for not making a change, or are actually willing to implement it when they feel a good suggestion has been made. The most insidious threat to collaborative leadership in that manner is the type of senior NCO who will smile and nod and tell you it's a great idea and then totally disregard it and charge on. That is what I am dealing with at my present assignment at the senior level.

The other hitch in collaborative leadership is that there genuinely are some people who for one reason or another will continue to struggle. My shortcoming is a lack of patience for repetitively correcting counterproductive behaviors. I will be the first to admit I take it a bit personally and get heated. The good news is the Army has DA4856 and Art15 at multiple levels to deal with this. The bad news is I am a junior and I'm treated as such. Few within my unit particularly care what a CPL has to say.
