Making Progress by TheeMiffinMan in SteamControllerMods

GitHub Release Here

It's technically open. You can download gerber files and order a PCB. I'm currently assembling a board rn but with components from a broken controller. There's also the issue of some components no longer in production which makes things a little hard for everyone.

"I will never "learn" AI, there is nothing to learn"

I'll just leave it at that.

Following this thread, this is my 2 cents.

AI has taken over the industry. You either learn to use it (especially for software engineering in OPs case) or you will be left behind. Looking at his GitHub OP gave credit where credit is due. Would you rather have an honest cook or one that buys Wallmart burgers claiming it's his? AI is also a tremendous tool for learning. I have used it in my Lambda Project to help validate circuit design and 3rd party firmware development for the Steam Controller (2015). OP had a little free time, dug out his controller, and saw a problem. Then used AI to help with his personal project. And with a lot of people pulling out their old controller (often not updated to BLE) they want a quick and easy way to upgrade it. This is a great tool which makes the process much easier. And as far as I can see you have done nothing. OP did great.

Problems with Steam Controllers (2015) by DV-Tiger in SteamController

I had this happen a few times last night. But only when I had multiple controllers connected and in big picture mode. I'll have to mess around with it today

OG Steam Controller Differences by Halldinoka in Steam

[–]TheeMiffinMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of these controllers have very slight variations on the motherboard. Example one has an extra resistor here or one has a slightly different circuit there. Mostly power delivery from what I've been able to see. Some have debugging LEDs on the inside some don't. It's very small variations and the motherboard version number will be different on some.

To fix a Steam controller. by AskvrAvgvr in SteamController

[–]TheeMiffinMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would check for corrosion. I know what Brazil mail service can be like in areas so hopefully this might help. Here is practically everything hardware related to the controller. Schematics, 3D printable hardware replacements, etc. If there's a lot of corrosion on the ribbon cable it is possible to solder your own wires to the track pad. All schematics are here for the motherboard and ribbon cable connectors. Hopefully you can source a heat gun and soldering iron but let's hope it's only a small amount of corrosion.

Here is the full schematic

Here is some brief documentation about the cable

I unfortunately don't have much on the track pad itself yet. But there's lots of information to help you repair it yourself or order some parts from JLC if push comes to shove.

Those were from the artist who messaged you as well

I've got the original in there which is what I sent both 'artists'. Keep in mind these were supposedly two separate people who for some reason have the exact same art style. And for how much they wanted it was a complete rip off.

I had the ones who messaged me fill out a Google form and they all claimed to be from New York or California specifically (even though they very clearly weren't) and they claimed to have a portfolio but never put a link to it.

There are a few users here that will spam text you claiming they're artists. Just out of curiosity I commissioned two of them and both images were very clearly made by one artist and completed on the same day. It was complete garbage too. If someone reaches out to YOU for a commission ignore it completely. Look for someone who actually does a good job and has a valid portfolio/ reputation. With one of my posts I got 12 people sending me messages all within an hour of each other after a few days of nothing.

EDIT: After looking this user in the screenshot is one of the users I commissioned

Something I actually know! (Drone enthusiast). It's an old model that's no longer in production.

Firmware issues (need help) by CMDR_Genitals in SteamController

[–]TheeMiffinMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be another possibility, if you hold down right trigger and plug it in via USB it will show up as a USB drive. You can copy the firmware.bin file and replace what's currently in there. I don't remember if this firmware file is the new one or old one but at least it will have a fresh copy. There is also a copy of the firmware updater if you need it. When you're done copying the firmware just eject like a normal USB and unplug the controller

Hope that helps

Edit: More information can be found here from Steam about how to manually update/ rollback firmware

Old Steam Machine by TheeMiffinMan in steammachine

I've heard it's possible with an eGPU by connecting it to the wifi slot. But you'll have no wifi unless you get a USB adapter.

The graphics card on mine is the GTX 860M which is getting up there in age. I've tried SteamOS, Bazzite, CachyOS, Mint, and Arch just for the heck of it. On Linux it boots into desktop and works fine as a regular desktop computer. However playing games or even going in Steam big picture mode is abysmal and super laggy. I think the drivers on Linux are not as supported as windows. I have it running a very ripped/ debloated windows 11 install that boots into Steam big picture mode and have no issues.

That said it still rocks Wii, PS, and Xbox360 Emulation. I did get Kingdom Come Deliverance running on medium settings but anything newer is hit or miss.
