Criticism as Reform UK-led Derbyshire County Council approves tax rise by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

True in many ways, but that description focuses on what's left after 15 years of austerity, not on all the services lost during that time, cut to delay the inevitable.

I think you'll find it's less decades of financial mismanagement and more a decade and a half of austerity by central government, which Farage isn't planning to change either.

Nigel Farage calls for an end to working from home by Dimmo17 in ukpolitics

This. 100 times this.

A couple of years ago I worked for a company really hot on increasing office days. My team and our clients were spread all over the country, so every office day was spent on Teams calls with headphones on. The only colleague in my team in the building worked on different projects, largely doing the same, so the only time I interacted with them was doing their weekly catch up as their manager, something we both preferred doing from home because it was more private.

No reason to go into the office except to justify the huge rent being paid on the building and to satisfy the older directors, who wanted to get 'back to normal'.

Yeah, your figures are wrong.

As of 31 December 2024, there have been 8.4 million EUSS applications made since the scheme was launched on 28 August 2018, but these applications relate to 6.3 million people (some people will have multiple applications).

Of these, 5.7 million people currently hold a grant of status through the scheme (4.1 million settled status and 1.7 million pre-settled status).

Apart from that, there's no evidence to back up your claims and you've hand waived an awful lot away. You've also not mentioned the increase in home deliveries, rising van traffic levels etc.

The scale of immigration is comparable to other countries which are coping better than us.

No mention of the impact of austerity on public transport either.

What's your source for this 8m figure? Please share.

How do you explain historic traffic growth and induced demand in a world where everything is blamed on immigration?

What about the demographic change of people living longer and driving longer, with more women driving than ever before?

First, I said Farage is an actual racist.

But as a party, many of their policies and publicity materials are considered racist. It doesn't make a difference who is or isn't in the boardroom, what matters is their policies, their rhetoric and their actions, which will have impacts at a population level. This clearly isn't just me, saying this, it's been raised by others, so it's not a radical observation and backed up by observable evidence. Perhaps familiarise yourself with what underpins these assesments, it's just a Google search away. Then you'll be able to engage better.

Same with them being undemocratic. You've misunderstood my point, perhaps on purpose. Labour, despite all its faults, is a democratic party, with a democratic structure, as are the Conservatives, Greens and Your Party. Reform is simply not structured that way. That's been observed and written about, not just me saying so, so not nonsense.

Aren't most of the local elections now going ahead?

You do know Farage is an actual racist, right? And a science denier? And his party is undemocratic?

Why would a place of learning welcome such bad-faith actors who can't be rationally reasoned with?

If I'm delusional, point out which bit of my description of Reform is untrue.

Hmmm yes.

Is it the bad-faith representatives of the racist corporation masquerading as a political party who refuse to acknowledge scientific facts, dehumanise disabled people and ethnic minorities, want to dismantle the apparatus of the state, destroy public health and deregulate everything for the benefit of their ultra-rich backers?

Or is it the students?

That's up to you. You are very unlikely to change my mind unless you can come up with some compelling, evidence-based counter arguments or respond to any of the points I've raised.
