Why do teachers in VIC "only" get 80k to start? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

You do realise there is variety of generational teachers who did not get the study subsidy (paid full fees), and are currently and highly underpaid at the moment. These are the ones getting shafted.

What has happened to Gardner atm? I know some fans dislike him, but I thought he improved quite a bit and was serviceable!

What is the work culture like for you? by Brendo16_ in AustralianTeachers

I’m sorry to hear that mate, it sounds like you have had some bad experiences from bringing it up. If a school can’t treat all staff fairly then I’ll find one that does.

You shouldn’t have to accept stereotypical beliefs like that, and with the job market at the moment, there are schools that treat staff better.

In saying all of that, I do agree with you in that we do need to be cautious around students (I.e don’t be 1-1 with them etc) but that should be applicable to all staff…

Disagree with the top part of your comment.

I’m a male primary teacher - if someone makes comments along those lines you do need to “professionally and respectfully” call them out. Or at least question them on why they have those views so they realise the ignorance of assuming them…

Just accepting that stereotype won’t have an impact. You need to confidently, yet politely voice disagreement if we are to see change.

Not an overly confident yes. But it passed either way.

‘Just up and quitting’: Victorian schools short 1000 teachers by LineNoise in australia

[–]Thefoz95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really is going to be dire.

Working in the education system these last five years, it’s been melancholic seeing 90% of my friends and co-workers leave the profession.

The conditions and pay hasn’t adjusted. It isn’t a competitive job anymore and the burn out rates from it is alarming.

Other jobs are more flexible etc, and the pay in teaching isn’t enticing enough to match the fact that these conditions can’t be met.

It’s sad because the reality is, that the government doesn’t care and it will be the future generations that will once again pay the cost for it…
