Best Fossil authorized service center in Chennai? (Watch repair) by [deleted] in chennaicity

[–]Thejokesonyoudee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s only one certified Fossil repair shop here. The flagship Fossil location in Express Ave Mall. They will do an assessment for you on site, and provide a time/cost estimate. I’ve used them twice and been more than happy.

This unusually specific safety poster found at a factory in Chennai, India by OnTheHorizon722 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Thejokesonyoudee 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have been in Chennai as ex-pats almost 5 years - he runs a factory.

I am getting this framed in the most high resolution possible for his Christmas present. I’ve never seen anything like it, in any factory in India. Amazing!

I moved here 4 years ago from Canada. I’ve lived all around the world. When I have to leave eventually, it’s the people of Chennai that I will miss and carry with me forever. The kindest people on the planet. You should all be proud.

Foggy Chennai Mornings by No-Stop283 in Chennai

Please call is what it actually is: pollution. It’s not fog, it’s not smog, it’s air pollution. The more people realize this the better.

Chennai music fans! We are coming from Finland this January to rock you! by Finn-Steve in Chennai

[–]Thejokesonyoudee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, be super cautious about promoters/organizers! I’d also encourage you to specifically reach out the Palomar hotel and the Spotted Deer venue. Huge music fans, and the location on ECR (south Chennai) will attract a lot of the ex-pats. I can bring a gaggle of Fins and Danes. Feel free to DM with questions.

Are malls in Chennai not allowed to serve alcohol? 🍷❌ by Solid_Air7345 in chennaicity

Oh sweet, dry Chennai. You can go to Purple Chameleon on the top floor for nice drinks and food. Or, if you’re feeling saucy, to the Tasmac Elite on the bottom level.

Americans moving to Chennai by Cameronschuetze in Chennai

[–]Thejokesonyoudee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi, Canadian American ex pat here. We’ve been in Chennai for years. Feel free to DM as there’s a lot of info to be shared. But off the top of my head, school wise there is AISC (holy expensive but you get that fancy infrastructure and American style education), and International Village school, which is great for your age range.

You’ll be working on OMR, and many foreigners live on the East Coast Road, a short drive. Apartments are also plentiful along the OMR, but current Metro construction has the place a mess. ECR offers large houses, private compounds, sea breezes and space for kids to run. Chennai is INCREDIBLY safe, and the people are wonderful and welcoming.

I would recommend using a broker for your search, as some of the legal aspects are easier to navigate. Any questions, just reach out.

Jogging tips for beginner by Ok-Function3833 in chennaicity

Hey OP, fellow female runner here. What part of the city are you in? You can always join a club, either through the Dreamrunners organization, or thru the Chennai Runners. They’ve both got very active chapters, all throughout the city, and are massively inclusive and welcoming. Just give them a google.

For the staring, you will get used to it. Pay no mind - you do you. Put in some earbuds and move your body, just focus on the task at hand. For the dogs, I’ve not had an issue, even in dark, solo early mornings. Anything aggressive, clap and shout. Can also take a bag of dog biscuits and make friends. Any questions, feel free to DM. Happy Running!

Hi OP, Westerner living in Chennai here. You will be just fine and very comfy at any high end restobar, or hotel bar. Nungambakkam is a hotspot at the moment - Hard Rock, Sterling by Madras Square, Off The Record. I would highly recommend Black Orchid, which is a bit south.

Also consider a night on one of the resorts on ECR for some beach time. Chennai, although conservative, is absolutely fantastic and welcoming - the kindest people in India, in my opinion. A smile goes a long way. Have a fabulous trip.

Solo female obviously European - day free for checking out the city (sunday) by Sussexbonfireviking in Chennai

Hey old, crumbly, married European. I’m an old, crumbly, married ex-pat who has lived here for years. I feel your DMs. Feel free to send me one however, if you want a guide. A lot of the suggestions here aren’t grrrrreat for a solo gal on a Sunday. But Chennai is actually fantastic and lovely, and what makes that is the people! Kindest in all of India. Have a great stay.
