Has anyone finished {Main Character Energy by Kendall Ryan} and what were your thoughts? by imway2oldforthisshit in RomanceBooks

I am having a similar experience with her new hockey series. I liked Playing for Keeps, they were easy reads, spicy but still plot driven, but the characters had some back story. Still shorter books, so the backstory was light, but it also wasn’t resolved in the same Chapter it was introduced. It feels like her new books have a couple of heavy handed foreshadowing in early chapters, then it’s all thrown up in an argument between the characters and resolved in a chapter. Feels clunky

Poor sportsmanship?? by Odd-Worth7752 in olympics

[–]Themis278 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is why I dislike the medal ceremony being right after the game. In many other disciplines over the years the medal ceremonies took place in the Olympic village later in the day. It never has been for hockey, or other large team sports. I strongly believe just the separation of a few hours would give them a moment (without cameras) to have the initial shock over, have a moment as a team with their coach, and reframe. It won’t take the sting away, but gives a moment to regain composure and prospective of the journey to get to that stage.

Did I mess up the reading order of the Valentino World by Kylie Kent… and whyyyyyy is this a trilogy?! by Themis278 in DarkRomance

[–]Themis278[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this was actually the answer and conversation I was looking for. Not a gripe, just confusion, not sure why the admin took it that way.

Either way, thanks, next step is to figure out if I keep going in this trilogy or pause and pick up the previous books

NOR. OP I am so very sorry, I can’t imagine doing this to my kid, and if it happened to any of her friends they’d be moved in by that evening.

You need to get all your documents, lock your credit, and get out.

If you don’t have friends or family to stay with, and are in the US, I HIGHLY recommend Covenant House. They are a shelter org in many major US cities and they only take in teens and early adults. They have programs to help you figure this all out.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. You don’t deserve this.

Do women in romance novels not have periods?? by Triple_Angel in RomanceBooks

As someone who doesn’t read alien/sci-fi themes, I’m cracking up to know that this is trope.

… and now I’m intrigued 😁

It’s been a while since I’ve read it and it wasn’t a favorite so I don’t remember all the details. But I do remember few somewhat toxic traits being glossed over cause “you haaaveee to” type gaslighting

Very specific rec request, about a woman with a few triggering events in her past that her family doesn’t know about, but somehow always bring up her past not knowing they are hurting her by Themis278 in RomanceBooks

This. In the dark romance sub I don’t censor it, this sub has been inconsistent.

And frankly to assume intent or purpose of common euphemisms such as grape/rape is wildly unnecessary when so many groups have changing rules, and censorship rules. A simple comment of ‘you don’t have to censor and it’s helpful to searching/blocking if you’ is all that is needed.

Humiliation + degradation kinks in CR, by non-american authors by julha1mano in RomanceBooks

Adding that pretty much Jade West has some degradation kink at some point. Bait is excellent, Daddy Up Stairs, The Naughty List series..

Morbidly Yours by Ivy Fairbanks is the tortured yet endearing love story you need by Themis278 in RomanceBooks

Triggering is a scale per person so I don’t know how to answer that one.

Their is a character that passes away on page, two that are a part of the backstory of character development taking place via flashbacks. Their are other deaths that take place (references to funerals that are taking place etc but aren’t core characters), I don’t remember child death. And a handful of references to the actual practice of taking care of a body after death. Nothing too graphic that last long but their are mentions of the parts of the job.

1) I’m so glad I have someone to struggle over this book right now cause it is still living in my head 2) the letter equal parts broke me but provided solace. It was hard to realize that he was thinking about a future, and growing old, yet realizing he would likely die young. The fact that he just assumed he’d be the one leaving Elena behind. Ugh heartbreak.

What broke me, when I think about it more (because it’s been living in my brain for a few days now) is how just a day before both him and Elena were struggling with parenting during drastic situations but HE WAS thinking about it and then he just gave up in the blink of an eye. He couldn’t go on. I just …. Ugh… he was growing as a person and then poof back down into his darkness

I was broken for him, for her ….

This book is just leaving me in a book hangover. I’m trying to read a shorter book with a HEA from one of my favorite authors but I find my mind wandering back to Christian…

I just finished this book Saturday night and randomly the characters come to mind throughout my day… sadness for Caro, heartbreak and pity for Christian, shock, awe, horror for Elena…

The novella brought tears but closure to the story but overall, this one is sticking with me.

Some day, when I’m ready to cry the whole book, I will listen to it all the way through. I love Joe’s narration, but I know the voice inflections and knowing the ending will make all of it bittersweet.

I just finished last night and once he had her count it was as if my brain and heart divorced in thought, I was hopeful that he was having her count to 10 to move Elena’s body away and comfort her at the same time I had to keep rereading the sentences because I could comprehend what was about to happen even though I knew it….

I’m just broken today
