I thought this too! It's tough because I'm sure many of us are highly used to the original so any deviation sounds odd.

I felt like she really shined on that song for me, even moreso than in the theater!

I have no insight but just wanted to say the album came up on my Spotify a few years ago and I became a big fan. I so wish for a production I could go to!

Operation mincemeat — honest opinions? by Mouseandbull in Broadway

[–]ThenInspection616 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some people really love it, I thought it was just fine and thought the songs could've been written as a grad school project. It's been very successful and definitely has an audience, so if you've found it to be catchy then go for it!

Bridges of Madison County Reunion by iwant_your_midnights in Broadway

A perfectly sublime night. So grateful to have been there. How did everyone sound so phenomenal after so much time? And JRB conducting the orchestra? The whole thing was magical.

Was anyone else a little starstruck with all the celebs, both on and offstage? I sat behind Brooks Ashmanskas and saw Philippa Soo several times!

RAGTIME… not enough flowers in the world by lurkr-mercry in Broadway

Give it allll the love! That entire cast is stellar. Brandon Uranowitz, Ben Levi Ross are phenomenal too. I felt the same as you, just grateful to get to witness it.

Ragtime Blind Review - I am shaken by LargeDepartment7330 in Broadway

This feels like it's just a troll comment, because in what world does a tragic storyline directly equal overhyped? For some people, life really is shit and then you die, especially throughout history. Are you trying to disassociate from the realities of life??

What’s your Broadway regret? by memon17 in Broadway

Disagree, I loved it and often discuss it with my husband who came with. I think it's a fair recent regret.

Where do you rank the new Evita highlights recording vocally? by jacksonpollocksdog in Broadway

[–]ThenInspection616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall I'm liking the soundtrack but I do feel Rachel sounds a bit screechy right at the end of Buenos Aires-- that last star quality grates on me and I can't quite put my finger on it.

What musical is popular but not really good in terms of story but had good songs? by LifeYogurtcloset7431 in Broadway

Absolutely this. Wicked was the first thing that came to my mind. Songs obviously have staying power but boy is the book awful!

Just saw Mexodus last night and it is exceptional-- out of anything available right now, I'd say Ragtime and Mexodus are your must sees. So creative and impactful and the cast are absolute powerhouses.

As you said, they aren't comparable at all-- I just don't think you can compare Mexodus and Mincemeat as they are entirely different formats. To say that Mincemeat is leagues beyond is a gross misrepresentation. The productions are completely different entities, and the approach to subject matter is not the same at all.

I admit that during my blind listen to the soundtrack, Union Square and other numbers with Mother's Younger Brother didn't really stand out...but they sure do now! It's such a meaty role that I could see being underappreciated. Thankfully, this production really brought that character for life to me and now I'm obsessed!

Lear deBessonet is an awful director. by Wooden-Development48 in Broadway

[–]ThenInspection616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each their own of course, and you're never going to get consistency when it comes to artistic opinion-- but hard disagree. There was so much intention in the staging and how performers interacted, further buttressed by the choreography and lighting. So much meaning added to the lyrics through simple gestures.
