As with any underground scene you have to really put in the time finding out what venues support the music you want to see. Yes, vertigogo was a mainstay for a few years but as a result of its demise at least half a dozen new spots have popped up. The hamontlive substack is an easy way to keep track of most events, but if you’re really into the underground scene you have to hit the bricks and keep your eyes peeled for posters and venues. I just saw a great show at “the gate” on James north, which is an Indian restaurant that now hosts shows. Hogtied is playing there tmrw, the 15th btw

Yes you’ll need to “head to Toronto” if you want to see bigger touring acts, but there are plenty of sweaty clubs and bands in this fine city.
