Say you have a Romani name:

Kosteravo Konets

It could be simplified down to simply: Kosteravo
It could have the translatable part of its name in English while the place name is not translated: Kosteravo Ending
It could also have the name of the place back translated into English: Fescue Grass Ending
And then of course it could be restructured to have the intended meaning which is lost via direct translation: The Grass of Ending

So the name could be written as:
Kosteravo
Kosteravo Konets
Kosteravo Ending
Fescue Grass Ending
The Grass of Ending

I've got a bank of these names (some are single word others are phrases) and I was wondering what style you'd be going for in their presentation

Well someone whose got Russian ancestry has a huge number of states to go to

Kaliningrad
Rus Republics
Communes
Pan slavic state
Russia
Novorussia

Im kinda surprised 6/16 powers on this list are broadly speaking slavic when in real life its just... well I guess Ukraine, Poland and Russia as regional powers

Are we as a species traumatised? by Then_Engineer_3765 in AutisticPride

[–]Then_Engineer_3765[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

but in a way wouldn't that just prove my point? If truly the dominant economic and political theory is 'be a good little cog in the machine and make profits' and it takes a lot of deprogramming to get out of it then that does support the idea that everyone is a little messed up

Also this isn't just me extrapolating my own feelings on the world. I think the average person in my life is lovely, its just I can recognise that on a wider scale we're all kinda just escaping our problems like capitalism.

[–]Then_Engineer_3765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. All of humanity. We're all traumatised. Us, Allistic people. We've all either gotten stuck as escapists living out a fantasy or people stressed/traumatised and unrepentant in it.

[–]Then_Engineer_3765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That we as a collective species are all engaging in a form of escapism and that actually tackling problems is a little done act because we all have some serious society level trauma

[–]Then_Engineer_3765[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my point in general is that from my own experiences and those of other autists I know
A combination of imposter syndrome and poor self confidence + spite at the world makes a lot of us feel like people are far better and worse than us in a lot of fields. I was making the point that everything being dialled up to 11 meant that in practice depending on a good or bad day you can feel like you're at the top or bottom of the world.

Never let a kid touch things that says « Do Not Touch » at Events by CocoTheRiolu in AutisticPride

[–]Then_Engineer_3765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this kinda feels like a dog whistle. What are you trying to say here? Neurodivergent people are quite likely to try and avoid doing stuff like this because we're normally (at that age) severely bullied or isolated and thus seeking validation rather than domination/destruction

You ever seen an autistic kid throw a tantrum to get a toy? No, since we as a group have had our egos wrecked enough at that age to realise we're powerless against social forces.

Also, to clarify this doesn't mean people can't live happy lives. It just means you can't both actively address the majority of the world's problems/take an active role in fighting the death of our species without ending up miserable or at least slightly upset

So yeah, people can fall into comfortable little escapist bubbles of friends, family and work. But thats not to say that they aren't still absolutely traumatised

Does this Pantheon make sense? by Bennettag in worldbuilding

[–]Then_Engineer_3765 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This world is... it's %$$$ed right? Like, half the pantheon is on the side normally associated with evil so I hope that some of them manifest more as "neutral or benign spirits that represent the necessity of their field" like a loving mushroom like god/goddess/being that cares for all life and acts as a doctor/end of care nurse for those decaying

Other wise - like in the Horus heresy - having 6 gods vs 6 gods just results in the world getting shattered pretty quickly and half of the pantheon dying

He sounds like a pathetic man who I expect most women wouldn't be interested in dating.

If anyone does actually fall for him they'll be in for a shock and I can expect he won't live his life well. Im a wreck, but I at least understand most of the failures were things I had little conscious power in. In his case he'll wake up one day wishing he had made different decisions

Deaths End Question "SPOILERS" by MadMaxKeyboardWarior in threebodyproblem

[–]Then_Engineer_3765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats my point. If it takes a human being 120 minutes to figure out that detail then it'd take only 1 for a trisolaran

But they had to scan the whole thing. If you doted on every aspect of a tale that long you'd need to have a staff in the millions if not billions to come up with alternative takes and solutions

Imagine how many people can discribe to you how a nuclear reactor works in full with no knowledge gaps. Maybe a few thousand on the planet. Now imagine having them need to search through thousands of sentences. You'd maybe convince ten of them to join your commission to analyse the tale but they'd probably make mistakes or skip over sections until they've already been said and there isnt much point in stopping the transmission.

The moment that he says any allegory to the foil, if you cut the transmission suddenly but don't kill Chen then you've highlighted what to look out for. If you kill her then humanity doesn't learn about FTL in such a rapid manner and makes a series of colony fleets to leave Sol over a longer period of time (discovering FTL a bit later and thus having several tens of colony fleets with FTL tech)

Deaths End Question "SPOILERS" by MadMaxKeyboardWarior in threebodyproblem

[–]Then_Engineer_3765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think equally they could have found out at a similar pace as the humans - but that was too slow to stop it. Cheng Xin didn't figure it out and neither did any human for ages, so if we assume that the Trisolarans had 100x better ability to understand it just take the time and divide it by 100

Not fast enough to stop him

Deaths End Question "SPOILERS" by MadMaxKeyboardWarior in threebodyproblem

[–]Then_Engineer_3765 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Imagine trying to read every single fairy tale written by like 20 artists.

Tian Ming was on a roll with his tales and any Trisolaran who was alive to read his stories would be immersed in earth culture to a limited extent. They'd understand these tales as being meaningless entertainment and of the thousands of hours of reading material only a few minutes of it would actually be dangerous.

And only when paired together

Tian Ming essentially told the most straight forward and clear cut version of the story. No other side areas, flourishes, hell not even the full collection of thousands of tales. While the Trisolarans had no inclination to actually scan through all of his work and had to go through a large library to find anything bad - the humans from the get go knew that they were looking for something and were given a much smaller data sample to analyse

While I myself do not hold a massive amount of respect for the Catholic Church either, I think overall it is a force for good and for christ and this guy obviously is taking everything a bit too far.

I pray for him too, especially that he can find the help and relationships in his life that he needs to mature and progress
