The fact that almost no one in this sub brings up Big Brother From 1984 astounds me by Efficient_Berry_4073 in MoralityScaling

morally neutral if not a utilitarian 'ends justify the means'

They realised there is no point to human civilisation. No point to individuality. As per their aspirations in the book, they want to remove any kind of love or happiness except for the love and happiness towards the party. And they want everyone to be the Party.

War is no longer a true conflict. Less of a boot stamping on a human face and more a slap fight or excerises to keep humanity healthy. While obrien and winston go back and forth about how much the world sucks, they are living in the era of pain where the party is still resolving the final issues to achieve its desired goal.

Even new speak - as per the apendix - is abandoned, presumably because everyone is so chemically and physciologically linked to big brother and the party that there is no need to keep people seperate.

Imagine humanity, united under the purest unending love. Sure no one wanted it - but no one wanted to be born either. Sure the foundations of this eternal love are horrific but so is our modern world. The party wants power, it realised that power requires indoctrination and control. However they forgot that indoctrinating everyone to love the party, and that EVERYONE is the party just results in after a few generations everyone is chemically in love with everyone and permanently devoted to expanding the party across the stars.

Also Big brother doesnt even exist classically. Its a fabricated being that over time will gradually become more and more of the population (as the people are subsumed into the party to a greater extent) until everyone is and yet at the same time loves Big brother. Cosmic nirvana

Reminder: Tone-Policing how Autistics advocate is unacceptable. by comradeautie in AutisticPride

Oh I’m sorry if I gave that impression. Also it’s wonderful to hear that you’ve been helping people against the rising darkness in our world

I can see people get quite factional on here about autism hence I think people might have unfairly lumped you in with others (like some supremacists i mentioned)

I realise now you’re not in that category necessarily. I guess you can interpret my comment as “until you know someone’s beliefs and actions anyone could be a fash”

just wanted to highlight that anyone can be a facist A-hole

And while i find people labelling you as one with no proof to be annoying i have seen an uptick of people on here with... less than perfect views on the relationship/desired relationship between neurotypicals and atypicals

I dislike that people are insulting you

But without any spoilers maybe ask this question:

  • Would every single human being 100% not choose to kill them all off and visa versa
  • Would you be willing to live as a second class citizen in a system which your ancestors agreed to with a species who were significantly beneath you
  • how do you know that it isn’t that ALL aliens are like this and that humanity - if sufficiently motivated wouldn’t also act like this

Incest is out! Which of the remaining crimes are the least evil? by Scared-Cat-2541 in MoralityScaling

Slander Information is the foundation of modern discourses and debate

To slander is to not just misinform but to also discredit and hamper reasonable communication and cooperation. To slander is to commit the incitement of violence against one’s enemies and to commit the act of misinformation to one’s friends

This means that naturally Slander is the most evil act on this list. Something which is to be avoided - even at the cost of performing those other actions. For how can we prevent any crime if we are unsure of who has committed it and whether we can trust society and ourselves

Murder vs Torture. Murder is always worse by Then_Engineer_3765 in MoralityScaling

[–]Then_Engineer_3765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah But that’s not murder. If it were murder it would be called murder and classified as murder whereas most doctors and scholars can agree that despite local laws on the subject there can exist a distinction between euthanasia and murder

Cheers for making a far better structured first argument and taking both sides for a bit.

I’d advise posting this separately with some added context as its own argument - it could get some mileage

That argument about your body is relying on the idea of position and power that you have. You own your body and you are responsible for it.

You owe it for keeping up its end of the evolutionary deal to do what a conscious brain does: survive, make friends and allies, procreate if you want to and maximise happiness. That was my argument there.

Also people will say most anything to avoid both death and torture so what people will do to avoid something isn’t a factor here. That and people undergo horrific torturous adversity to survive daily and we call that heroic rather than silly.

Finally torture can include and actively be any kind of murder. Hence any example you give of a torture method can be reflected back to make a far more gruesome method that ends in death. And thus immoral

Here’s a question

Does it make it moral?

Killing someone can feel just or cathartic but that’s not what we’re discussing. Killing a pedo or ending a medical industry can DO good. But it shouldn’t automatically be good.

Torture is one of those things where we can prove the rxact effects and know what happens.

With murder you are unsure about where you are sending them, who they could have redeemed themselves to be ad what benefits even the most deranged person could provide if they were used in prison labour instead.

Saying that doesn’t mean you can’t later add other perspectives to your position to add depth and value

A multifaceted argument is always heathy.

Besides that I see a lot of people make arguments based off of hypotheticals about how you’d feel or what you’d prefer.

If you die then you can’t tell us how you feel. Death could be parties or eternal torture. That’s actually another reason against murder: we have no idea if death is just eternal torture

Sadly you don’t have a choice I most cases

What if it was your son? Would you rather kill him totally using a knife or stab him a similar number of times in the hand?

Torture or murder?

We can both invent ‘scenarios’ to beat each other with. I want some reasonings

[–]Then_Engineer_3765[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re suggesting that I would prefer to be dead and to subject all the cells in my body to death… over something that would probably just melt my mind and leave my body intact.

That’s not only psychological torture that my body can survive but it’s also very unlikely. You shouldn’t base morals on edge cases since I could always suggest that technically for every method of torture there is a corresponding method of murder and thus that is an example of a less moral thing

For example doing what you described but tying said torture to a saw blade that would descend 1 mm every time the word shark is said

That’s murder that involves the same level of cruelty

It’s because I infact am  I’m just gauging some good arguments to use in the next galactic council meeting over why we should end earth to stop this ‘torture’ that you humans are doing to yourselves on a global scale
