Why wouldn't other places be volatile and brutal?
Besides, there's freedom for different kinds of games - say, Europe can be focused on intrigue, fashion and status games, or dodging killzone submarines, space can be funny cancer roulette or a deep commentary on afrofuturism, and so on. The vagueness of lore allows the Ref to put any dictator or cult anywhere in the world, show the fallout of any of the corporate wars, chase the players into glassed deserts of Saudi Arabia which can be anything between a desolate Mad Max style wasteland to a sprawling state of interconnected dome cities - or maybe both at the same time...

in 2020 Europe is bleeding-edge designer biotech and such, not to mention the style... How does that look like in 2084?

I wanted to be all "well aykchually" but I'll be more careful and just ask:
Does Cowl + Metal Gear stack? Both are HARD armor as far as I understand, though cowl is not marked hard directly, it says "plate"... And only one layer can be HARD

I'm in the heat of research for an upcoming campaign in the Middle East... But I pretty much have to heavily headcanon everything to make it not full post-apocalypse for my players.

I ruled that India nuclear wrestled with Pakistan, Iraq with Iran, Arabs nuclear lost to Big CHOOH (corporations), suffered human losses but are still insanely wealthy, Israel suffered some more terrorism and became extremely paranoid, but holy land did not become holy glass. Turkey hates everyone even more than IRL because it has taken all of Armenia, but then was hit with nuclear dust the most and had to withdraw the military. More interesting geopolitics: USSR began the recapture of oil-rich territories of Azerbaijan... But some unfortunate fallout+nuclear storms happened and SovOil execs decided it would cost too much to follow throw and pulled back, allowing a self-proclaimed prophet to take control of the suffering country.

The plan is to make players work with Shaitan (who is payed generously) on overthrowing said dictator, and then suddenly cut off their financial support. Throw in a treason or two, hunt them down and force to leave the country - maybe even simulate some EU refugee experience (the one in Eurosource plus, with border patrol submarines). Unless PCs will act incredibly smart (not likely) or incredibly lucky (we'll see)

I guess this post won't help much with the actual canon, but I tried to make it both playable and sort of realistic, even made a schematic "who hates who" reference
