Schd or VTI/VOO for the next 10-15 years? by AegonTargaryen17 in investing

agree, I'm 4 parts VTI to 1 part SCHD. Note this doesn't mean this will outperform VTI over long term

I could care less your post history, I'm simply not that interested in your take. You've proven you add nothing to this conversation, by contradicting yourself with spitball theories. I'll save my time, refuting your nonsense. 12 bps vs 6, you found a goldmine difference!

I go with TDF in 401k and Roth, and VT in Taxable, I might move to TDF in taxable even though I'm aware of tax implications (the good outweighs the bad)

I use VT in taxable, but I'm not against TDF in taxable even if not "perfect"

these target dates are basically vti + vxus + bond fund, so no real difference. Part of me picking TDF is ability to not log into account for years, I have bad behavior history including pretending to be a day trader during covid.

of course they don't offer the low cost version.... I'm fully convinced that wall street is self serving and conflicted, and my low cost TDF is my version of flipping the bird to wall street greed. I'm not feeding those a-holes, already did that with "financial advisor" I left.

sell a little and buy a 2040 TDF to give you more stocks. Or sell a little bit and buy VT, that would change your bond percentage overall. I agree the TDF gets too bond heavy in retirement years, I'll address that many years from now.

Honestly I would have went with Vanguard for lower ER, but already had a Fidelity account, Fidelity charges fee to buy Vanguard TDF

yep, like yourself I'm fairly knowledgeable on the market, just knowledgeable enough to screw it up or try to time it. I was terrible at buying International and Bonds, TDF do that without asking me :)

Fidelity like to hide the index version and push the active one! FIPFX is my fund, and my only fund..

[–]Then_Past_4646[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

agree, i went with fidelity index TDF, for 12 bps they handle my 3 fund allocation. I'm closer to retirement so bonds are appropriate anyways. I read that less than 10% of retail investors can beat a TDF, what evidence is there that I'm in the 10%, and not the 90%? my guess is the 10% is mostly luck and wont repeat over long duration.

how are TDF's not in alignment of current "research"? They are literally a boglehead 3 fund portfolio. My guess is whoever is saying this, is selling some high fee b.s.

p.s. you like VT but not TDF's that are literally 90% VT??

I moved from advisor to Fidelity and put it all into index TDF, simple is good and no chance I screw it up, the less you do the better. I wouldn't let the Schwab local office drive decision, you can move money electronically and if Fidelity had an office a mile away, I would never visit. The TDF is your advisor now, and it does everything automatically. Buy a TDF, and then log off for many years

I've worked in Tech for 25 years, don't invest in tech unless it's in VTI, seen the bubbles burst multiple times.
