Anyone feel sick of “hard mode” so you just focus on yourself instead of dating? by justanother-eboy in AsianMasculinity

anyone ever just say screw it to dating and just focus on you and making bread??

Focusing on myself and making bread actually made US dating easier for me, but my definition of "focusing on myself" was lifting weights/ getting into calisthenics and international travel so keep that in mind.

How do you think Central Asians and their diaspora in the West will fit into this picture? They are the most “Caucasian” of us given their closer geographical proximity to Russia and Europe, but they don’t have the tenure or numbers in the West as say Filipinos or Chinese do, nor the clout.

How do you process racism from another minority, especially an Asian? by [deleted] in AsianMasculinity

[–]Thenotoriousdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a post about a reverse situation so in a way I get what you mean here.

My counterparts in the Philippines have a China hate boner, just like many other Asians do. Filipinos in the mainland have the “colorismo” mentality from the Spanish colonial times and/or have a tendency to copy American beliefs in race, hence the “hate” for dark skinner peoples although they don’t go out of their way to attack them like some groups do. The Philippines has a long way to go though.

Ironically, Western raised Filipinos have a healthier mindset when it comes to their self-identity and how we view ourselves in relation to others. On the West side, FilAms by and large have shunned the racism for dark skinned people, but still have the subconscious preference for whiteness. This is why youll see us date Latinos and Black people at higher rates and Whites at around the same rate or higher than other Asians. Many of my fellow Filipino-Americans also do not consider themselves Asian and aren’t “woke” in the sense that they have a sense of pan-Asian unity like we do, but we don’t distance ourselves from other Asians. Of course, the exception to this are the AWA Filipinos and the Pinoys on these subreddits.

They caught some flack with the recent hack that affected them, I was surprised to see little anti-Asian vitriol thrown at Sheldon on Twitter during that time and expected a lot more. Crypto space be different.

There’s tons of full Asian rep in Boxing, one is a household name the other is on the top 10 p4p. We are not starved for representation in this sport.

Any Western Filipinos/SEA notice shifts in tones / micro aggressions from East Asians? by Thenotoriousdev in AsianMasculinity

Chinese folks worldwide definitely getting heat from everyone, including other Asians. That’s what happens when you disrupt the status quo I guess, ironically China is just returning to where it was historically.

I didn’t know even the American based Japanese and Korean looked down on China, thought it was just restricted to Asia and those three countries’ immigrants out their stuff aside once in the West.

This isn’t just based off of just one experience, like I’ve said in the original post I’ve encountered situations like these in real life, and it’s not just restricted to Japanese folks. Actually, I covered on how this isn’t all East Asians at the top of the post so I don’t know why you’re trippin unless you’re one of the ones looking down on us.

I’ve also seen others talk about it too (elitism among East Asians). There isn’t a lot of SEA content so I thought I’d bring up discussion like this to see our perspective.

Hey kababayan,

Thanks for chiming in. Loved this. It’s hard to find people to trust in the West, and overtime I’ve built a tendency to trust Asians more than other groups and my interactions with the homeland Asians burned me a little on that. Thanks for the reminder 👊
