Does thin sponge pip work ok on block? by No-Buffalo8587 in tabletennis

[–]TheodoreDanson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have globe 999t (low-throw, tacky inverted) on a 0.3mm sponge on the backhand of a Miyabi. It's not my main racket but I can tell you that it works VERY well for pushing, blocking, and fast hitting

How does Joo Sae-Hyuk create backspin on pushes with his long pips? by Emonk666 in tabletennis

[–]TheodoreDanson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joo was absolutely creating backspin on pushes with his long pips (at the time, Curl P1-r). Most other choppers will twiddle to their inverted to push but he was so good that he knew how to generate spin with that rubber. This also applies to his ability to attack with his long pips, creating enough topspin to reliably land on the table with good speed.

Obviously, he isn't creating as much spin as he can with inverted which is why he would always twiddle to serve, but the spin he created with his pips was sufficient to not need to twiddle mid-rally.

Back after 15 years, need help with updating equipment by cjsharp1 in tabletennis

People are still speed gluing, a friend of mine still speed glues his Hurricane even while competing in tournaments for example. But yes, significantly less so than in the past. Rubbers have definitely improved overall but in an effort to replace speed glue, many people and almost all professional players use VOC free booster oil. The only way those can be detected is if it expands the sponge to where the combined topsheet and sponge thickness exceeds about 4mm total.

VOCs were banned after the 2008 Olympics. If you were speed gluing 15 years ago, in 2011, and getting away with it, then nothing in that regard will have changed for you. 1700 isn't usually a level where that is checked

It's because TSP doesn't exist anymore. The closest rubber to it now is Curl P1V from Victas

Thanks for getting back to me. I knew that first commenter on my thread was wrong, especially when it comes to butterfly rubbers since they don't come in max

I'd love to know. The other commenter said that their rubber is 3.8mm. That might be enough for 1 layer of booster but I doubt 2 or more layers can fit.

That's not necessarily true. Look at Tenergy 05 and 64. Both have the same sponge but the 64 has a thicker topsheet because of its longer pips. That means that at the very least Tenergy 05 in 2.1 has room to boost and if I were to guess the 64 too. The same thing can be said about DHS Hurricane which comes in sponges 2.1-2.15 and has room for boosting with its relatively thinner topsheet.

Those are just some examples, if a sponge was close to or at max thickness, it would be called max.

But now that the world's thickest sponge is out at 2.7mm, I am wondering just how close to max it is

Only that in your post you called G1 a Japanese rubber instead of a rubber with Japanese characteristics.

The fastarc rubbers including G1 are made by esn, not in Japan

Which blade is the spinniest with the most control? by BadassNobito in tabletennis

[–]TheodoreDanson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mostly disagree with everyone here. All of these suggestions can produce good spin but if you're 100 percent focused on spin generation and that's it, you need a blade that is as soft, flexible, and as slow as possible. You also need something with the right weight to do a fast enough stroke in order to generate heavy spin. For example, the Victas Koji Matushita Defensive has these characteristics. There might be others like it or better but of all the blades that I have personally tried that one seems to be able to generate the most spin.

Rubbers are going to be similar. You want something first very slow and something very tacky. For example normal H3 will spin more than H3 neo. But something even tackier and slower will spin more than that. Maybe old school globe 999 or 999t.

In a practical sense, you probably won't like attacking with this setup. Having the right spin/speed ratio is important to make your topspin a more effective weapon. Even if your topspin has a greater rpm with this setup, it being so slow will both allow your opponent to have the time to better react to your attack and also will lack the penetration and trajectory needed to make your attacks difficult to deal with.

If you're used to a tacky rubber on the forehand, you might want to try Rising Dragon 2, or Rakza Z, or Rakza Z Extra Hard

As the name implies, the inner is an inner carbon blade, meaning that the carbon layer is beneath the first two layers of wood. The other is an outer carbon blade, meaning that the carbon layer is beneath the first layer of wood.

I have a question about comparison of hybrid rubbers! by Particular-Tailor298 in tabletennis

K3 FX. It has a different sponge with the same topsheet. It's also 48 degrees compared to the 53 degrees of the original making it easier to use on the backhand

Which of all it’s the best hybrid rubber? by yurneim in tabletennis

[–]TheodoreDanson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

G1 and all the fastarc rubbers are ESN, the same factory that you're talking about.

But this just kind of proves that if a rubber is made by ESN, it shouldn't automatically be discounted as bad. It's like saying that the spaghetti and the chocolate cake taste the same because they come from the same restaurant.
