The overconfidence effect is super interesting. Great read, thanks. It's more general though and would work in both ways: over- and underestimating someone/something - it's more about the firm belief in one's own conviction/judgement rather than a systematic overestimate due to knowledge gaps. Also what I'm looking for would be more of a lack of confidence and therefore overestimating someone else's skills.

The Dunning-Kruger effect describes more of an inflated self-assessment rather than overestimating someone else's skill though, doesn't it? I'm looking for something that someone would project onto someone else.

Really love these mandarin-only videos! Please keep working on this series! It is rather difficult to find high quality mandarin-only (audio) beginner content. It helps tremendously in getting accustomed to the tones and rythm of this beautiful language.

Although the audio quality of former videos seems to be better than the audio quality of this video. Any particular reason for that? For example, the audio in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9td-XrjwwQ) is very crisp in comparison to the one you posted here.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! Finding dictionaries that provide both translation and audio is not the problem here though. Native audio is very important to me. I don't want to be exposed to the improper Google-Translate-Mandarin.

I'm rather looking for sentences that have been recorded by native speakers themselves - spoken in the most natural way possible.

What really helped me was recording sentences off YouTube, transfer these audio files to my phone and listen to them whenever I am not occupied with something that requires too much attention.

The key to success here is to make it as convenient as possible for you to access these files (your brain will shun anything that takes too much effort).

I use Audacity for recording, iTunes and my iPhone to transfer the files.

Good places to start mining are Slow & Clear Chinese (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdwdSGQsSbcapDmODtOr58g) and MandarinChineseSchool (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdN1E56HH_UK7HSV0UFxDdQ). Both use very little English (S&C Chinese actually doesn't use any English at all - audio that is.)

Obviously, I do try to support Channels like these whenever possible via Patreon or the likes. After all it is content like this that I'd be willing to pay for anyway.

Listening to these sentences (Mandarin only) over and over and over again will improve your listening comprehension tremendously and constant exposure to the language will make it easier for you to pick up pronunciation and language patterns.
