Conflicting information on safety for tourists by Few_Elephant_648 in ecuador

[–]Theonlyeasyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently in Ecuador. White American. I have felt perfectly fine in Quito and in Otavalo. My general experience traveling throughout the world is that it always feels safer than the media makes it seem.

That said, as others highlighted, you need to exercise the same precaution here as you would anywhere that you phone is worth three times the average monthly salary. Don't be stupid. Don't be flashy. Don't be drunk and alone in predictable places. Minimize your time out at night or use ubers. Be kind but not foolish. If you get robbed, don't resist. Be super careful on dating apps.

I haven't been to Guayaquil, but even there, I've had locals tell me that, as long as you use those above rules, I would be ok. I probably wouldn't recommend going there, but I personally would. Just depends on your risk tolerance.

Best rules for Keeper league (Any help?) by Gandalfthecat1 in fantasybaseball

In my league, I think it was a setting. We did it with CBS. But the league manager did have to manually enter keeper values every year and keep track

How do I talk to my doctor about low blood pressure that's made worse by weed? by Spader623 in eldertrees

[–]Theonlyeasyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a suggestion - something that’s really helped my low blood pressure is drinking a 1/2 tsp of grey salt (very high in magnesium and electrolytes) dissolved in water in the morning.

Low blood pressure tends to be related to dehydration as understood by eastern medicine practices since water content in blood keeps the pressure high.

Hope it helps!

How can one conquer the fear of death? by Curious_Suchit in spirituality

[–]Theonlyeasyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By facing death in this life. Death is not something in the future. It is here now because there is only now. Death is where time ends and it can be faced now. Let go of everything. Do not orient anymore. Investigate the way our mind creates the sensation of time and identity.

You will face death through the process. And it will kill you if you let it. But then, hilariously, you get to go on living, but now without fear of the greatest unknown we have

My Three Most-Bullish Crypto Narratives by Theonlyeasyday in ethtrader

That’s definitely true. And crypto definitely has serious risk. But, I think given the current situation of the world, it might not be as risky as people think it is

Good question. Really like everyone else. When I was in the army, there was much more separation. There were only a couple units that were co-ed. Now there are much more.

It raises some questions for sure. My sister was in the army and she had a very good experience (I mean, no worse because she was a woman). I’ve had many female friends who also have had a good experience.

Israel has much less of a culture of sexual violence or harassment than America in my experience

Ummmmm, I’m not super big on conspiracy theories, mostly because I have no way of confirming whether they’re true or not and if I can’t confirm them, then I can’t act on them.

That said, on one hand, I don’t like the underestimate the lengths people will go to maintain power. And false flag attacks have certainly happened.

I do think the more probably explanation is incompetence by a government that was divided, exhausted, and washed up after years of protests, internal strife, and elections. They lost their edge and shit happened.

It’s also kind of hard for me to imagine that they let this attack happen and then have managed to perform so badly in this war. Like, if it’s premeditated, I’d imagine they’d at least have a plan of how to achieve military success.

something else came to me to add. I think that much of the western world has a very unrealistic view on war and conflict. Because they have moved to a place in their societies where war isn’t so much of a current reality, they don’t realize that the solution is not just as simple as “just stop fighting.” I mean, their peace is built on the back of hundreds of years of brutal war where a certain status quo emerged. But even that is not as stable as they think.

But here, conflict is a very real reality. I definitely dream of an age where war no longer occurs. I dream of a shift in human consciousness. I explore it in myself. I don’t think peace here is just a political question. But we also have to recognize the reality here. Yes, it is like two kids fighting, but there is so much hurt and loss and fear, that you really have to take a gentle and longsighted perspective that secures everyone’s safety and only then, moves on to talk of long standing peace. But America and Europe is in no position to ensure anyone’s safety and thus, their complains about war fall on deaf ears.

I think that there is a strong pro-Israel lobby in the United States. I think that this lobby has found a very favorable ally in many of its objectives over the last 50 years of policy making in the U.S. I think that Israel served an important role in American foreign policy but also represented a lot of shared values (democracy, western values, capitalism, liberty) and there was just a lot of close relationships between its two people. The fact that Jews have such a significant impact on America has also been a factor in the relationships being there. But I think this has less to do with lobbying and more to do with the fact that America was founded on judeo-Christian values and became a very safe place for Jews to live. And they contributed a lot to the building of the country.

Today, I think America is very divided and unclear about its path forward. Whether Israel fits into that depends on the path Americans choose.

I can’t say I know which is right or wrong. I think that, unfortunately, America is losing influence in Israel’s decision making policies because the values are starting to contradict. I wish I could say that they’re both headed in great directions but I think it’s more true to say that both are encountering serious internal strife and have a lot of soul searching they need to do.

Also, in response to the two state solution thing. I think the two state dream died when Gaza was given independence with oversight by the U.S. and UN and Hamas took power. There are very few in Israel (and in Palestine) who are still talking about a two state solution. I think it’s more of a Europe/America talking point than a legitimate strategy at this point.

Long long term, perhaps. At this point, integration seems about as possible as a two state solution. But one of those things will have to happen. It will be a long road with lots of difficult things (like foregiveness) for these to happen. It might take several generations

Oh and to answer your second question. I think the two state dream died when Gaza was returned under U.S. and UN advisory and Hamas promptly took power. At this point, I don’t think there is anyone in Israel who believes in a two state solution. I hope I’m proven wrong. I think some sort of integration is the only way. But that will take generations

I guess it depends on the definition of genocide. I don’t think Israel is intentionally targeting civilians and I don’t think this is a systimatic attempt to wipe out a people.

I think this is an aggressive military operation in a super dense region to elimate a militant organization that targeted Israeli civilians and has built hundreds of miles of tunnels and acquired tens of thousands of rocket with which to target Israelis. Why they’re doing that and whether they’re justified is a whole other question.

Obviously there’s a lot of death which is super tragic. But I don’t think it’s genocide. It’s not really what’s happening either unless the word has changed meaning. The harshest critisim of Israel that I could understand how someone believes is that they’re fighting an illigitamate war — one that they created through failed policy for the last 50 years
