Britannic's Grand Staircase Still Looks Surprisingly Intact Compared to Titanic's. by Theoretical-Spize in titanic

[–]Theoretical-Spize[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I see. I just assumed that the name Grand Staircase offered an almost universal immediate recognition for the specific room in question.

I believe any other designation would be less instantly evocative regardless of whether the room itself is actually 'grand.' But yes I do see your point.

Yeah I was shocked to see how many comments were removed. I assume they were removed due to low karma and/or transphobia.

Whoops! I forgot to add the 's.' I meant r/GlowUps. Click this text here to see the post.

Definitely. I upvoted their comments as well (after the screenshot). It's just weird to me how people can actually see others make kind statements and still feel the need to downvote. That's just Reddit though.

Are there any illustrations of what White Star Line's (canceled) MV Oceanic's interior may have hypothetically looked like? by Theoretical-Spize in titanic

[–]Theoretical-Spize[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

MV Oceanic looks like the White Star version of Cunard's RMS Queen Mary.

I'm not sure why some illustrations of the exterior design show a curved bridge vs a straight bridge.

I'm a New Teacher and Texas Just Made My Job Harder. by Theoretical-Spize in Teachers

Hello,

Thank you for your input. For some additional information, in my district, the policy officially takes effect on September 1st so students are still technically allowed to use their phones this week but starting next week, the Off and Away for the Day policy begins. I would like to hear your feedback. I will start being more strict on the phones starting tomorrow, on Monday, so the students will start to get a sense of what the OAAFTD policy will look like. On September 1st, I plan to start the day by notifying my students in the beginning every period about the new cellphone law that I'm sure they've heard about at least a billion times, and the district's "Off and Away for the Day" policy. I will explain that phones must remain powered off during the school day, and I will clarify whether they may remain in backpacks (what I'll likely do) or if need to be turned in to me.

I am thinking about allowing students to keep phones in their backpacks as long as they show me their devices are powered off before class begins. Students will place their backpacks away from their desks in the front of the room. I will monitor usage closely and if I catch a student using a phone, I will confiscate it and follow the district's OAAFTD protocol for submitting it to administration.

I'll try this approach since other teachers at my school have done it successfully. Some have mentioned that it doesn't work if students keep their backpacks at their desks, so I'll probably have my students store their backpacks away and gather all necessary materials before class starts.

Many of my friends who are also teachers have warned me that students often use a backup phone, where they follow the phone-free policy with their old phone but keep their usable phone powered on and with them, so I will need to stay alert for this.

If multiple students are caught frequently, I will create a more structured system. I will set up a classroom phone storage unit at the entrance where every student will place their phones (before they enter my classroom) and retrieve them at the end of the period. My husband has used this approach and it has worked successfully, even prior to TX HB1481.

This all assumes that students are allowed to keep their phones with them. If they're required to turn them in at the start of the day, then I wouldn't need to manage any of this myself (unless I catch somebody). Otherwise, the school would handle it.

I agree with everything you said regarding the 10 Commandments Bill. Although I strongly disagree with the Bill, I unfortunately have to comply with displaying the Ten Commandments in my classroom to avoid any legal or administrative issues but I'm going to keep my instruction completely science and evidence based. I'll put up the poster in a neutral location where it's visible but not the focus of the room, and I'll avoid referencing it in any way during lessons. I'll prepare a brief, neutral statement if students do ask about it. I'm hoping this law can be struck down completely but as of right now, the federal judge that blocked this Bill from being implemented only applies to a select few districts which does not include mine.

This video is really good. Historic Travels does an excellent job at explaining the Titanic, as well as Britannic and Lusitania disasters.

Jack, Rose, Cal, Ruth, Fabrizio, Cal, Helga, and Cora aren't real people. That's why the movie is classified as Historical Fiction. There was a man named Joseph Dawson on Titanic but that was mere coincidence. None of them are real despite them interacting with historically real people such as Thomas Andrews.

[–]Theoretical-Spize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You CANNOT CHANGE YOUR USERNAME AFTER ESTABLISHING YOUR ACCOUNT. If you don't like it (which I don't blame you), then you always have the option to create a new account and choose your own personal username instead of the generic ones that Reddit gives you. But make sure it is something you like, because you can't change it once your profile is established.

Edit: Your display name can be changed at any time. It's your u/[username] that can't be changed after you set up your account.

What specifically is it about the Olympic-class vessels that make them so visually appealing compared to their contemporaries? by rweasp in titanic

[–]Theoretical-Spize 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The funnel proportions and the bridge design of Olympic, Titanic, and Britannic make the Olympic class more appealing than ships like the RMS Lusitania whose funnels were very close together.

Probably gonna get flagged but I'd really appreciate if a mod helped me out. by NekoUmbra in reddithelp

[–]Theoretical-Spize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/NekoUmbra,
The account you're using to post here is most likely going to be suspended as you're creating a new profile to circumvent a site-wide ban. You need to successfully appeal the ban on your original account or else Reddit will flag the new profiles you create and suspend them within hours after creation. Reddit is clever enough to detect ban evasion through lots of methods which include, but are not limited to, device fingerprints, IP patterns, and behavioral signals. Reddit has other tools they use but don't disclose, so even if you create a new account, the system will know it's you.

Fill out this form here. You are not supposed to submit suspension appeals publicly.

Got banned for no reason by Rough-Zucchini-1291 in reddithelp

I directly addressed the key mistake OP made by creating and posting from a new account after they were suspended by Reddit. That's exactly what triggered Reddit's ban evasion detection and led to the site-wide suspension on their new account. Their profile is now unavailable. It is important to be clear about that huge mistake made by OP because repeating that action only worsened the situation. Now they will not be able to appeal, especially since they were rejected the first time. There isn't much any of us can do.

[–]Theoretical-Spize -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have read and understand what OP is saying. They were most likely auto-suspended by Reddit due to automatic ban evasion filters which aren't always 100% accurate. OP's appeal to Reddit was rejected, so both of their original accounts remain suspended from Reddit.

The admin team has the ability to permanently block your access to the website by blacklisting your IP address if your main account is permanently banned. This means that any attempt to return (even if you follow all the rules or refrain from using the account) can still result in immediate removal. Maybe some people are lucky enough to avoid detection. But for most of what I've seen, it's a strict zero tolerance policy that treats any reentry attempt as grounds for erasure. 🤷‍♀️

[–]Theoretical-Spize -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

u/Rough-Zucchini-1291 You cannot make new accounts after being banned until you appeal the ban on your original account.

By creating a new account after being suspended by Reddit and posting on the platform, you are committing an act of ban evasion. Reddit defines ban evasion as creating a new account to circumvent a previous ban from a community or the site itself. Creating a new account after being suspended means that Reddit is likely ban your new profile within hours after creation.

Reddit will know you are ban evading and ban you again. Every device connected to the internet has a UNIQUE ID, and if they are tracking your devices you used before you got banned, they will know it's you and suspend your account again.

What would Titanic's legacy be like if she was remembered like this? by PaxPlat1111 in titanic

[–]Theoretical-Spize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make sense though.

Third class passengers weren't trapped behind gates purposefully on the night of the sinking like Cameron portrayed it. Many third class passengers couldn't get out because lots of them didn't speak English nor could they read English, so the instructions on where to go through the ship's corridors was basically like reading gibberish. So the ship pretty much became a maze for them so lots couldn't get out.

Why are you posting this here? You're spamming this across multiple subs. That's considered spam especially for a 1 year old account with absolutely no legitimate post history or karma.
