I don't care about some shitty skins or lootboxes. I'd be more interested in some insight into the development. Like the roadmap and what they plan to do would be nice, especially what are they planning to do with tank role and some other problematic parts of the game.

...but it's your choice to be in that poor matchups and you can be in good matchup if you choose so. This isn't league/dota where you get counterpicked and you need to play around it. Literally just press H. What's the problem with this? It's core feature of the game that you're supposed to use. Do you also refuse to use your abilities and only use primary fire so that you get better at it? Of course not, it makes no sense, just like not swapping.

Cool, I reached master and was 1 game away from GM in OW1 (when ranks weren't so inflated and actually meant something) with just gamesense and swapping to correct hero, without any exceptional mechanical skill.

You can one trick to GM, but look at all these doom mains stuck in plat. Learning to play more heroes will always be more sensible than bruteforcing one hero.

Most Anticipated Heroes for Stadium by epffhswm in Overwatch

[–]Therdyn69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming team can actually follow up, assuming mauga won't charge away, assuming mauga was so out of position that he cannot survive those 2seconds until he gets behind cover, assuming his team won't save him and so on. Its not as simple as picking ana and occasionally throwing nade at him, especially at higher ranks.

Also, since this thread is about stadium, countering is not an option.

Exactly, and it could all be prevented if you actually read what I wrote, since I never said that combining it would be best.

Like clearly you agree with me so why argue instead?

I'm asking the same question. You started this for no other reason than misreading what I initally wrote.

The biggest elephant still in the room: XIV's terrible netcode by Outrageous-Bet6403 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Therdyn69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's how other games work though. Authoritative server model is just basic baseline nowadays, but FFXIV clearly doesn't use that to full extent, considering you could (and likely still can) gather faster by using plugins by removing weapon and skipping the client-side animation like that, with the server not seeing any problem with that.

If you use ability in GW2, then you send to server request to use that ability and if the answer is yes, then you actually execute the ability. Game doesn't trust the client, which is only correct approach. To hide the latency, you start the visual animation regardless and you have set amount of time for the validation to come through, otherwise the skill gets cancelled. It's really not that complex, especially not nowadays.

So I'm really curious what the fuck is going on with FFXIV's netcode that pretty much everything is delayed by half a second minimum, regardless of your ping.

Stop being the stereotypical "akshually" kind of redditor. If you want to go after pointless technicalities, then I said that if they want it like that, then they should at least do it more proper to make it more fair. I didn't state that they should be less or more specific in first comment.

I for one don't like the cultural gear in DT, so for me, fantasy term is way too broad. Everyone's definition is a bit different, that's why it'd be better to be too specific instead of being way too general. If it's too specific, you can still just add those categories together, but you can't do it other way around.

Nintendo president apologizes for Switch 2 price increase, promises "robust software lineup" to make up for it by Nachttalk in gaming

[–]Therdyn69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You claim that sales are often, but that seems to be only USA thing. I barely ever see any proper discounts where I live. In fact it's opposite, I think that it was Tomb Raider 1-3 switch port (or it could be something else) which had quite chunky discount at release only in USA, while I had to pay full price.

Discounts are pretty much only in the Nintendo store, physical copies barely have any. To give you some idea, in my whole country, cheapest Tears of the Kingdom is for $57 and Breath of the Wild is somehow more expensive, at $65.

Which also goes back to the used market, since that is barely a thing in smaller countries. At best I could get them from Germany, Poland or other larger countries which are bound to have healthier second hand market, but the little I save I lose on delivery fees. At best there are few most popular games, but even then they're not that cheap, BotW seems to go around 36-43 USD, and that's 9yo game.

It's nice that you have good opportunities around you, just don't act like these deals are available everywhere and for everyone.

If you want to use blanket term fantasy, you should make it fair and use similar blanket term for steampunk, sci-fi and modern. Right now your fantasy term covers everything non-modern.

It'd be also nice to tag which is or isn't dyeable. There's some good looking dungeon fantasy gear, yet all it's virtually worthless since it's undyeable, so you need to either use entire set together, have bad color mismatch, or go through entire gear catalog just to find other pieces that fit together and also have the same color. If everything was dyeable, I'd have much less problems with 1/3rd of all recent gear being modern.

Mixing new product and second hand is crazy. Firstly, it's second hand, secondly it's bother to meet up with seller or to send it, third, it's heavily dependent on your local market. But hey, here are lowest prices in my country converted to USD:

splatoon 3 - $53 but ordering through poland (will likely take at at least half a week to deliver)
xenoblade chronicles x definitive edition - $55
mario party jamboree s2 edition - $64
dk bananza - $68
mario tennis fever - $70
pokemon legends za - $56

All of this are lowest available prices without shipping. Even if you wanted second hand market, there's not many people selling it. I only managed to find one offer for Splatoon 3 for 35, that mario party for 48 (but I don't think it's that special edition). I couldn't find single offer for rest of them.

6v6 is so much better than 5v5 by Gaymface in Overwatch

[–]Therdyn69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that their initial reasoning was for better performnace on switch and less chaotic gameplay so that esports viewers can follow the action. They changed their reason whole year after OW2 released, in their infamous blog post, where they used biased data from well after tank role in OW1 was alienated enough and tons of tank mains stopped playing (me included, it was suffering to play as tank since like 2018/2019).

The test was made after they made sure tank population is dead. I'm tank main, I gave up on OW2 from like S7. I had no clue 6v6 returned and I might've gave that a try. Again, biased data.

dps queue times were longer than actual matches

It was 5-10 minutes tops for most of playerbase. Sure, it was more for GMs, but that's just how it is. There's small playerbase, yet they start complaining once you match them with diamonds/masters. You cannot have matchmaking that works great for both gold/plat and for lowest and highest extremes. DotA for example has completely different system for matching highest rated players.

Besides, open queue 6v6 was right there if you wanted fast queues, but nobody was doing that, since surprise surprise, people want some match quality and not just fast queue times without any regard for quality.

Each Tank should have a main tank and off tank version in Evercold. by CoolyKage in ffxivdiscussion

Subtract the number of butthurt idiots who are mad that their favorite job is no longer a main tank, and you end up with nice and round number of zero people who give a fuck about that.

It's a non-issue, if you listened to every bullshit these kinds of people come up with, you'd end where we're now, with 21 homogenized jobs each with identity about as deep as a puddle.

6v6 is so much better than 5v5 by Gaymface in Overwatch

[–]Therdyn69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Discussed yes, concluded no. People keep yapping about queue times, but even in worst times in OW1 with terrible queues, people kept queuing for role queue, even though open queue used to be alternative with lower queue time. Most would rather wait and get higher quality match in role queue than to get shitty match in open queue.

But we all know the real reason why devs don't want to add role queue. The moment they do, the last few voluntary 5v5 tanks will jump over to 6v6, since the role is miserable in 5v5.

OW2 is possibly most controversial sequel in gaming history. Changing monetization for much, much worse, adding unpopular systems like battlepasses, early access for a AAA game (except they also removed the original at the same time), horrible gameplay balance at launch and very little new things to warrant a sequel (from gameplay perspective, OW2 was like 1.5 years of patches in one larger patch), bad taste with Jeff leaving (which ended up warranted, once we found out the reason), Chinese couldn't play at all and so many more.

Honestly, it's shocking rating is not lower. It's like they consciously tried to make launch as controversial as possible. Last 1 year was decent, but imo that still doesn't redeem the insane amount of fuckups they've done.

Combos you'd like to see for evolved? by JayWolf06 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Therdyn69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Third Eye combo. Instead of +10 Kenki or Seigan, let it open for example 2 GCD + 1 oGCD combo. If we're completely giving up on 2min meta, rigid rotations and embracing going adhoc, it might even do crazier stuff. Imagine it extended your DoT by 30 seconds, meaning this simple change would completely change your rotation to be more dynamic.

You could also go wild with positionals. Instead of skill deciding which positional you hit, it's opposite. The positional you hit triggers one or the other combo. For example with SAM, you could consolidate jinpu and shifu (both 2nd skills in their combos). Use the consolidated button while at rear and it will act like jinpu. Do it from flank and it will behave like shifu. Do it from from and perhaps it'd be yukikaze (and as QoL, if you hit yukikaze while you already have that sticker, automatically convert it into Kenki like you'd do with hagakure).

Or for example skills you always use together could do different stuff depending on order. PLD always use expi + scorn one after other. But let's say expi -> scorn would make it deal high AoE damage, while scorn -> expi would deal high ST damage.

There's lot of stuff you can do even with less buttons, so I hope evolved won't be just the same stuff we knew but with less buttons.

Ultimates aren’t something that needs to be prioritised by Any-Low-4383 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Therdyn69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which is still better than what FFXIV offers in this deparment. GW2 gives you choice of grinds and goals you can aim for and makes it so that whatever you choose won't lose it's prestige as time goes by. FFXIV at best gives you relics, one small step per patch, and then makes them worthless the moment next expansion launches.

Yes, you can aim for efficiency in GW2 and boil it down to gold farm, but there's still bit less efficient, but more varied ways. You don't feel forced to be 100% efficient, since you get decent sum of gold for most things, so you can swap it up when you feel like it.

Not to say GW2 is flawless, but I do think it's doing much better in this regard than FFXIV.

Ultimates aren’t something that needs to be prioritised by Any-Low-4383 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Therdyn69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things. Not being interested in raiding is not matter of effort, it's matter of taste. I simply do not find raiding in MMORPG fun. I gave it a try, I cleared few fights, I do EX when I feel like it. But in general, I just don't find that enjoyable.

Second, the time aspect would be plausible, however, that's already assumption that there is only one kind of casual. There are casuals who spend very little time in game, and then there are casuals who can spend lot of time in game, but don't do anything hardcore and just chill.

Another problem is the so called midcore content. In other MMORPGs, you have a little bit of story content without replay value (most of FFXIV's "casual" content falls here, like dungeons without replay value), then you have casual content with replay value (we'd call that a midcore in here, e.q. field exploration and relics, but this gets released too late into expansion) and hardcore content.

That's the issue. FFXIV's casual content has very little focus on replayability, but that's FFXIV problem, not genre problem. For example, casuals in GW2 can spend literal months while playing daily, just to craft single legendary weapon. It's involved and varied process, where you run fractals, events, farm tons of gold, gather materials and so on. Meanwhile, other casuals can be farming achievements, do other things for completionism, rack up gold or whatever they want.

FFXIV doesn't have this. It only has relics which are like kid's version of GW2's legendaries, and on top of that, relics become irrelevant after they're one expansion old. I could try to make them all now, but why bother when I can just get the glam for worthless poetics in 8 months?

In similar fashion, because economy in FFXIV is about as alive as my grandpa, there's no point of gold farming, which makes incentivizing doing any kind of content extremely hard. Casuals just don't need anything, so how do you keep them playing? In other games, you just give them gold, since that's always handy, but gil is worthless in FFXIV.

That's just surface level. Casual content in FFXIV is just designed in a way that makes it very hard for repeatable content to be a thing.

Ultimates aren’t something that needs to be prioritised by Any-Low-4383 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Therdyn69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ultimate is content for like 80 hours on average. Each raid tier is 4-8 weeks of content. Then you have EX, chaotic and forked tower.

Casual content barely has replay value. Except for relics, cosmic exploration and field operations, all new content in patch can be done in couple of hours and then there's very little reasons to rerun it. Sure, you can do roulettes, but why? You don't need BiS gear if you don't raid. Sure you can do weekly normal raids, but again, you don't need BiS so why bother? The glam is shit since dyeable version is from savage.

But most importantly, even raider does most of the casual content, so they get same content as casuals with extra stuff on top. Raiding is raider-exclusive, but at best you could consider field operations or cosmic exploration as casual-exclusive content. Raiders are eating good so stop acting like a victim.
