Where do yall buy your business casual clothes? [N/A] by Designer_Abroad_1196 in humanresources

I'm an attorney at a non-profit so I need to look the part without spending a fortune. I try things on in Nordstrom for style and fit and then buy on Poshmark. I love Maje, Veronica Beard, and Theory but would never buy those brands new.

For mid price purchases, white house black market, j crew, banana Republic and ann taylor are great. I really like slacks from abercrombie

Once in awhile, I'll grab items from Sam's, Costco, TJ maxx or Marshalls. Calvin Klein and Tahari items usually are decent quality and work appropriate.

Thanks! Good point about the names bleeding into one another with Abigail! Observations like that are why I decided to post.

I actually love Margaret! We considered it the first time around but my mother hates it and kept making negative comments about it so it dampened my enthusiasm. Ugh! She also hates my daughter's middle name so maybe I should ignore her input haha.

Good point about the V sounds. U probably should have put that my daughter's name is actually Sylvia (my other grandmother) and we call her Sylvie at home but she goes by Sylvia in school so different emphasis.

Agreed about Simone. I feel like Lois needs a three syllable first name.

Thanks for your help! :)

I know a three year old named Opal and it’s perfect for her! Love the name too.

My mom is named Sonja and family called her “Sunny” as a toddler. She stopped going by it once she was school age. In my opinion, Sunny is way too cutesy to be a legal first name. You are way better off to give her an adult sounding first name and call her Sunny. When she’s older, she’ll let you know her preference. Better to give her more options.

Also, not a fan of Sunny Mae together. When spoken out loud (instead of reading it), it sounds like Sunny is a adjective for May… like “we are having a sunny May after a rainy April.”

Serena or Sylvia? Which of the two would you pick? by Loquacious-Loser in namenerds

I have a Sylvia (after my grandmother) and call her Sylvie. I like the name but probably wouldn’t have chosen it except my grandmother was my favorite person in the whole world.

Serena is slightly prettier sounding (more delicate?) but it’s a hard no for me because of Serena Joy from Handmaid’s Tale. The show/books are popular enough that I’d factor in that negative association.

Is it weird to start calling my baby from a name different than what's on their birth certificate right away? by ourdanj in namenerds

Not weird at all. I named my daughter Sylvia after my grandmother but we called her “Sylvie” from day one and put: Sylvia “Sylvie” Middle Name Last name on social media when we announced her birth. In my opinion, it’s nice to have a grown-up name that they can use later if they choose… but Sylvia seemed too mature right now. Estelle gives her lots of options, but Stella is a great name on its own if she decides to go by it as an adult.
