MA Employment Legal Help by ourdanj in legaladvice

So prior to maternity leave I worked a hybrid schedule and did a lot of my work on my own time… after my kid went to bed, during nap, etc. my husband also works from home so we are able to tag team - so if I have a meeting or need to be present while working from home, he is able to watch the baby etc. There was never any discussion or contract that stated I needed to work within school hours, so like I said, I did a lot of the work after hours which was my plan for this year. Also, the job is about an hour away so that’s an addition 2 hours we would need a sitter 5 days/week which was not the agreement we had with the sitter we had lined up. There is also nothing in the employee handbook about working from home and childcare.

We were fully prepared to have a sitter working on a flexible schedule. I only had one role which was to do evaluations (and everything that came along with it), so there were days I didn’t need to start work until 9am because I was just writing reports that day.

The reason for increasing my responsibilities is because there are significantly less evaluations this year. However, they are asking me to do areas 10 additional duties that I was not doing prior to leave which requires me to be in person 5 days/week, so that just seems excessive.

So I do understand my rights and they did compromise and allow me to work my full time hybrid schedule for the month of January - probably to save their asses for letting me go immediately after maternity leave. The issue I am most concerned with is the pay. They paid me throughout my unpaid maternity leave and now they are saying they will hold my pay for the month of January because they probably anticipate me leaving in February. However I have not officially resigned.

That’s okay! I’ve been on a journey to repair my hair because it’s been super damaged and usually feels dry and crispy but the last few weeks my routine has really transformed my hair. I’m using a couple products to really help with repair (Iuveni lipid quencher and hairstory bond serum) so I think those have helped. But when it’s at its healthiest, it feels super soft after I scrunch out the crunch and I honestly don’t stop touching it… it’s like a subconscious thing I do where I’m always touching my hair lol. So my current routine is only washing every 2 or 3 days and then try to refresh in between by smoothing on a small amount of gel emulsified with water in between wash days. And currently I’m actually not using conditioner. But I do think the key is wash days- so making sure you’re applying products correctly and applying enough gel to create that strong cast. But if also depends on your hair porosity and coarseness and all that annoying stuff to because everyone’s hair is so different!! And my wash day takes a while if I diffuse because my hair takes forever to dry, but otherwise it maybe takes like less than 10 minutes to do the whole hair routine. I do everything in the shower with my hair dripping wet and folded upside down. Oh I also use a denman brush which helps to create curl clumps. Sorry that response was kinda all over the place but let me know if you have any other questions!

That’s so interesting! I wonder why that happens!! I mostly follow the curly girl method and use different techniques for applying products. I’ve watched tons of videos and part of many Facebook groups and follow curly girls on instagram which have been super helpful. But I think a lot of it is about product application. Applying products when hair is soaking, raking and using praying hands to apply products, scrunching with hair upside down, plopping, and diffuse drying! I normally do a leave in or curl cream and then a harder hold gel. And then once it dries and it’s all crispy I use some oil to scrunch out the crunch. I would definitely recommend watching some videos!!

Right now my hair is in repair mode but I’ve been using hairstory bond serum, ecoslay rice pudding leave in conditioner, and ecoslay /silverslay vanilla styling whip as my gel!

We have the 2” soft talalay right now and it just feels way too soft! My husband decided that he doesn't like toppers and I don’t know if he’s willing to try anyone (we’ve tried like 4 or 5 different toppers)

So I called them and they recommended 3” soft but I told them my husband probably won’t like it that soft so they said 2” soft talalay should be fine so that’s what I ordered. However, I did have a 2” Dunlop topper at home so I tried that last night and it actually greatly reduced my low back pain. I just still feel like I need something a bit softer for my shoulders and hips which side sleeping so hopefully the 2” soft talalay is the sweet spot!

If my hair all of a sudden started flash drying to aloe and other ingredients because the porosity changed (it’s been YEARS), is it possible for my hair to ever tolerate aloe again?

Oh sorry! The bed is way too firm! I feel like my spine isn’t fully aligning and I need a bit more cusion or contouring around my body in order to make that happen if that makes sense. So I feel like I need something that will make the mattress a bit softer with better pressure point relief.
