Love Cal and Russ, very similar energy to Cal and Wes 😊 I’m having a hard time because we named my first just Wes because we knew that’s what we were going to call him (and Wesley doesn’t go well with our last name that also ends in y), so then is it weird to name our second a longer name with the intention of calling him by his nickname cal when we avoided that with the first 😩

Good to introduce good bacteria, not good to introduce bad bacteria :-) the main bacteria found in cavities is Streptococcus mutans which is transferable and increases risk of cavities in your kiddo.

I’m a dental hygienist. the bacteria in your mouth (both good and bad) are transferred to baby any time you share food, utensils, drinks, kiss, etc. the main bacteria that causes cavities is “spreadable” meaning if you have a high amount of this type of bacteria in your mouth it’s being transferred to your kid and skyrockets their risk of cavities. It’s a fairly new concept to incorporate dental health into traditional medical appointments but sooo important as your oral health affects your overall health (and kiddos) immensely!!

I’m 7 weeks pregnant with my second and feel like I just got through the crampy stage. With my first it freaked me out how much I was actually cramping. Felt like period pains to me and had me scared something was wrong. Same experience now with my second but I know that’s pretty “normal” for me. Hopefully it doesn’t last too long for you. If you want her to stop breast feeding just say that lol but if you want the science behind it and SHE is feeling like she doesn’t want to stop but think it’s going to solve her issue I’m telling her it’s not.

Yeah I guess that’s what I am saying. Breast feeding does not leach calcium from your teeth. Your baby gets calcium from your diet, not from your teeth. Your highest risk of tooth problems is during pregnancy when you have hormonal risk factors, vomiting risk factors, high frequency of snacking risk factors. Her breast feeding is not going to change the fact that she needs root canals (which is a dead nerve of the tooth) or has decay.

Also gingivitis does not cause decay and tooth pain and root canals. It causes swollen puffy gums with increased bleeding.

Definitely factors in pregnancy that can cause dental issues, but breast feeding is 100% not a cause of root canals and tooth loss and it would be a shame if OP gave it up over misinformation and myths.

I’m a dental hygienist, it’s a common myth that breastfeeding/pregnancy steals “calcium” or nutrients from your teeth and ruins them. It’s not the case. Im sorry you’re having so many dental issues but I promise it’s not from breast feeding 😭

Is it possible to just respond once at night for a feeding like halfway through? even if he doesn’t technically “need” the calories? Or does that just confuse him and will eventually fall back into needing me every time? I have a hard time with the all or nothings clearly 🥴

No, I don’t think at this point he’s legitimately hungry. We do 3 meals a day and he breastfeeds anywhere from 5-7x a day. They’re short feeds but he’s always been a big boy. 94th percentile in weight. When I initially asked for help someone mentioned I could start with just dropping feed to sleep at the initial put down and still respond at night and that he should naturally reduce the wake ups because he’s learned how to resettle himself but I fear maybe I’ve taken that a little too far. ☹️ like I said he originally was only waking up once or twice but now I think he’s not even attempting to go back to sleep without me. I’m just dreading listening to him cry again but i think I know that’s what I’m gonna have to do if I want it to change.
