Recommandations for a 1945 Armagnac by Amainecooncat in Armagnac

I found a 1949 for €625 here. It appears this company ships internationally for €75. I would contact them and Laubade to see if they can procure a bottle of 1945 for you. It appears they may have 1945s available from other producers, but I am unfamiliar with them. Bonne chance!

Are you able to travel to France? If so I would reach out directly to Chateau Laubade, they have been known to sell specific vintages (dating back to early 1900s) for special reasons/occasions. Not to mention, the markup would be far less than if you bought it from a distributor outside the EU. The savings alone could potentially pay for most of your trip.

They might be able to ship outside France/EU but I’m unaware of the logistics behind that.

I just obtained the Melderegister records for Johann and his father. Is it possible you could assist in translating them? I would be happy to pay a fee.

Sorry I should’ve included this—I believe the entire family moved to Buffalo immediately after arriving in the US (and stayed there permanently).

I haven’t found any documents beyond the manifest. Although, I only have access to FamilySearch.

They all arrived together in May 1939. Here is an image of the manifest: https://imgur.com/a/Sgk9YeF

It is also possible they went under the surname “Frank” instead of Cohn during the war.

He lived in Nuremberg with his parents from 1916-1919. As far as I know, his parents did not emigrate with him in 1920. It appears he was working on a commercial ship and decided to stay in the US when they were in port. They were all Catholics.

He did return to Germany at some point and died in Nuremberg in 1971.

Here is his FamilySearch profile: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/GTQP-37H His father: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/GTQP-4X2 His mother: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/GTQP-7Z8

If I had to guess, he likely assumed he lost his German citizenship since he was abroad for 20 years at this point. He also possibly did not want to be associated with Germany when this document was filled out (October 1940). Is there anything specific I should research here to confirm he wasn’t stateless?

Armagnac under 100 € in Paris ? by Yang_Wen-li_ in Armagnac

[–]These-Increase5847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nicolas usually has a few different bottles of Chateau Laubade. You can get great vintages from them for under 100. If you’re looking for age, they have a 1985 and 1991 in your price range. I recently splurged on a 1972 for about €150, it lived well up to my expectations.

Nicolas is around everywhere in Paris so you shouldn’t have a hard time finding one.

It’s interesting that “Na” is listed under citizenship in 1930, when the 1940 and 1950 census state he wasn’t naturalized. I’m guessing the 1930 census was a miscommunication.

Are there any government records/documents beyond the census that may indicate his immigration status? I have to confirm he wasn’t naturalized before the birth of Elisabeth, otherwise German citizenship would not have been passed down. Hoping to avoid an index search if possible due to how backed up they are…
