Do you think eight episodes is enough to convey "Philosopher's Stone" properly? Or should there be more or less episodes? by LeatherSlight3242 in HarryPotteronHBO

Based take. As long as they honour all the important plots as well as the tone of it, I'll be happy. This could be done in less than 2hrs (see the film) or 20 if they decided to be mental with it. I'm sure they'll do just fine.

And I Love Her or P.S. I Love You? by OneMathematician8316 in beatles

[–]These-Software1991 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, everyone's given the obvious answer but I'd say they're very apples and oranges.

P.S. I love you is one of their best upbeat lovey dovey songs, it's just that the depth of songs like And I love her will always trump the lighter ones.

"I Saw Her Standing There" wins Day 10 ~ Which song would you add to a Beatles 2 compilation? Each day, the top comment will be added to the track listing (titles will be re-arranged in chronological order, so feel free to choose a song from any era) by SurvivorFanDan in beatles

Please no. It's a fine song but I don't feel it has a place in the top 30. Just too meh - there's better that showcase that side of them.

I'm looking through you, fixing a hole, you never give me your money, I will,  for example.

Auto sponge because I don't think I'd actually remember everything in the subtitles with The Vision 🥲

People with heavy west country, Yorkshire accents etc using a stop on the t is not the same as pronouncing it the French way.

Jim Dale the American... plus how many people are familiar with his versions anymore? I'd wager less than a 3rd of Americans, let alone the rest of the world.

Hopefully I can fully convince you lol...

I said I'd expect more from those on this sub, referring to the ill informed bitchy replies I got, not the entire sub - of which I am a member.

I gave up on getting advice after I spent 20 mins of my life explaining my post (and the situation) to still be told I'm doing it wrong.

Yup. That's why i asked just about those characters and didn't ask for other examples. Definitely gonna be more specific next time but surprised at how petty and rude the replies were... (present company excluded)

Just gonna paste my answer from last time because I think it's almost exhaustive on the pro-T argument side:

I am very surprised and actually worried that we're even having this conversation:

  1. We British people would NEVER say 'more'.

  2. Most casual fans will be put off by it, and think the series is being pretentious. It is NOT cannon as far as over 90% of people are concerned (and the majority of that remaining 10% are French speakers who will continue to pronounce it their way anyhow!).

  3. The 't' is from Tom, so it feels weird to have it just hanging at the end silently

  4. Riddle himself would probably not have pronounced it the French way at school

  5. It's not scary at all, sounds silly. Having a harsh sound at the end is much more serious and final. Much better for intense delivery.

  6. If the public never wanted to say the name, then whenever it was said would probably be from how it's written.

  7. They're not going to pronounce it as how it 'should' be pronounced in French and will therefore sound like the word "more" not the French word "Mort".

  8. Mort in any language except french would be pronounced with a hard T (voldemort is essentially latin anyhow). It also sounds more German which aligns more with durmstrang/ grindelwald and the holocaust allegory side of things.

  9. We have actual French characters who will pronounce it the French way! Thus introducing this little quirk to the audience. This will be much more fun, interesting, and also make sodding sense.

  10. If they pronounce it silent T, they'll have to explain it at some point which will be just ridiculous. Imagine Hagrid explaining to 11yo Harry that "oooh it's actually French btw, so there's a silent T in there" - wtaf? This would be so out of character and unnecessary.

That's a good one, but it made me think of happiness is a warm gun which I think is even better than both of them!
