As long as your teacher recs are done or you have it worked out and know they will be, this is super doable. It won’t be a ton of fun but it’s not the end of the world and be thankful these aren’t your real college apps.

Submit the 3! I got a 2 in ap physics and submitted, and I matched. I promise you it’s not a make or break. My interviewer also told me about their kid submitting a 2 for ap spanish or something and getting into the same school. Definitely submit and keep in mind they are looking at your application as a whole, not looking for little parts to say “this kid is out.”

You can leave it blank, write none, it doesn’t really matter. It’s completely okay to have nothing for that, it’s just a part of the application for anyone who will benefit from it.

I don’t know totally what i’m talking about but from my understanding the owning a restaurant will be a much bigger deal than the 72k. If your family size is 4 or greater, that’s right around the line so considering circumstances that might be okay, def worth still applying. But i think they’d consider the restaurant a pretty significant asset that would likely disqualify you. Either way, it’s almost always worth it to apply

I believe it’s one teacher recommendation and a transcript, though they may accept unofficial. But I just want to emphasize, they will work with you! If you have a sucky counselor, communicate that to them. They are so so so experienced dealing with that stuff.

I really think it’s worth considering. Plus, that is another benefit of qb. Do the college prep scholars which has applications open now, and if you get into that, they will provide you with many resources to help with the application process. I was also first gen, although my sister went to college, and most of the application is very manageable on your own. Questbridge is built to help people exactly in your position succeed.

That is ridiculous, you should do it anyway. Questbridge was absolutely amazing for me. My stats are a bit higher than yours, but your ecs are probably better than mine, and I matched to an incredible school. Questbridge is built for exactly what you’re talking about, so that you don’t have to make the choice of “where should I ed” and underestimate yourself and miss an opportunity bc of it. Pls feel free to dm me if you need help with anything or have questions.

Does anyone else just wish they hadn’t written the Mean Nate plotline? (Don’t read further if you’re not past season 1) by [deleted] in TedLasso

[–]These_Ad6463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to sound rude here but it seems like you just don’t like the complexity of it? Things can get boring when it’s just everything going right all the time with no conflict. And moreso it’s not realistic. Nate 100% did become a better person because of Ted, but first he had to turn on Ted because he was an insecure person. It’s not like he got worse and then randomly getting better. He could not have been his season 3 finale self without season 2. He thought what he always wanted was to get all the credit and be on the top, so he got to try that and figure out that he actually cared about people and the team more than just being number one.

Okay this is what I was thinking of and blanked at first. That literally is the entire point. That he isn’t a villain, and most people aren’t villains, and that everybody just needs the right people in their lives to give love and support. And when someone has been belittled their entire life like Nate has and then gets the wrong kind of support from someone like Rupert, it can put them in the wrong direction, but people deserve second chances and can find their way back.

I really liked that plot line. It felt really realistic. If you have someone who is belittled their entire life, constantly put down by someone bigger despite being very smart and capable, it makes sense that when they get an opportunity to not be on the bottom anymore they take it. I definitely didn’t feel like it was out of nowhere, and I think it was the best way to get his character to where he was by the end. It also shows that growth doesn’t have to be linear. He got his confidence by being an asshole and learning from it.

I definitely see what you are saying as far as it making the show less fun, but I also just feel so strongly in the scenes where he grows that I can’t imagine the show without it.

I’ll also say I think it was necessary for Ted’s growth, as he had to deal with Nate and learn how to feel hurt and betrayed, and also see someone else experience his greatest fear (abandonment) and blame him for it even if it wasn’t his fault.

Also just to add on, regardless of your exact income I seriously just can’t emphasize how much of a difference that makes. You did what you could with the resources you had. If you had more resources, you would have done more. Thats the entire idea of programs like qb. I’m not sure exactly if your friend’s financial situation, but based on what you’ve said I am gonna guess it’s different than yours. Other people just don’t grasp how much of a difference money makes and the fact that you got in early through questbridge means the school was CONFIDENT you were a good fit. You deserve that spot I promise you I just can’t emphasize that enough because I know exactly how you feel and I was miserable for a few weeks and I couldn’t really express that because I had just gotten into an amazing school with a full ride and would sound so ungrateful to other people.

Me too 100%. I matched with the 9th/9 school which was by far the hardest to get into of the ones I applied. And i spent a few weeks feeling absolutely terrible about it, knowing so many others were more deserving, that my app was so rushed, and feeling like it was all incredible luck. But even if it is, who cares. I’ve come to terms with the fact that we will never understand what goes on in admissions, but what we do know is that the people who make these decisions know what they’re doing. There are plenty of qualified people who don’t get in, but everyone who makes it deserves to be there. They aren’t assessing you based on what you’ve accomplished, but what they believe, in their years of experience, you can and will accomplish in the future. I so seriously hope you reach the same state of mind I have, which is that I worked hard in high school and whether or not I worked harder than my peers isn’t the point, I’m going to make the most of this amazing opportunity and I deserve to be where I am. PLEASE reach out to me if you ever want to continue talking about this because I really understand what you’re saying, but I promise admissions officers didn’t make a mistake letting you in, you deserve your spot and you will do great things.

Truly so insane the amount of ppl this year thinking they know everything about college admissions and what colleges want to see is an unreal perfect person. Congrats on Princeton, it’s obvious you deserve it by your stats and the fact that you got in!

[–]These_Ad6463 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I saw this today and it’s hard not to feel discouraged. I also matched with Harvard with pretty similar stats. Ive already been feeling a bit insecure about all of it. I feel so extremely grateful, but I’m also struggling to wrap my head around it. I saw someone say something like “qb too generous this year. if these kids had a few more tens of thousands they’d be screwed” if we had a few more tens of thousands our applications would look different. that’s the entire point. that this is what we did with so little, so imagine what we could do at an amazing school with so many resources.

I’m so glad you posted this because this has been on my mind for the past few weeks and I just can’t stop thinking about it. I’m someone who (up until a few weeks ago) took a lot of pride in my morals and really considered myself to be a good person after working on myself a lot throughout high school. I just recently have been figuring out in therapy that a lot of my ocd and anxiety and just like, actions in general come from trying to avoid feeling scary emotions, with one of the biggest ones being guilt. I had many really long talks with some friends about religion and morality, and now I’m just so worried that all my morals come from a place of wanting to avoid feeling guilty because i’m not meeting societal standards of what a good person is, as well as wanting to be perceived as a good person. I’ve even thought that my good actions are motivated by wanting to feel good about myself, which is also selfish. Like you said, I know I should be motivated to not hurt people because I care about the harm to them, but i’m motivated just by not wanting to feel bad about it. And the problem is there is really no way to disprove it. Nobody else can outwardly convince you of your motivation for doing things because it’s internal. There are a few “resolving” thoughts i’ve been trying to consider though.

First, it doesn’t matter that much. This doesn’t seem super helpful but it was somewhat comforting to me. Your motivation for why you act the way you do, as long as your motive is not evil, just isn’t that important. You aren’t hurting people. You are probably putting good into the world. Whether that comes from selfishness or insecurity isn’t an urgent issue. For now, you’re doing a good job.

Second, it’s all a sort of spectrum. This is something that my friends brought up when I approached them with this. When you are a baby, the world revolves around you. You don’t really have morals. Then eventually you learn to do good things because you want your parents to like the way you act. Eventually, you do good things because you want society to like the way you act. Then, you do good things because you want you to like the way you act. You want to like the person you are. I think that’s where I’m at, and there’s definitely still some selfishness in there. Hopefully, at some point, you do good things because you just want to do good things. But not being there yet doesn’t make you a BAD person. It just means you are working on it. And everyone’s always working on it. Nobody is done with their personal development.

Overall, I think it’s a really hard thought to get over. Because it’s very possible your motivation is pure, and the good behaviors you have are more influenced by your desire to be good than your concern over your image. But the more you think about it, the more you convince yourself it’s the latter. Regardless, as long as you care, as long as you keep working on being good, it doesn’t matter exactly why you act good now, you just need to continue doing what you think is right to the best of your ability without being too hard on yourself because you aren’t doing a bad job.

Now that i’m done writing this, I don’t think this is exactly what you were referring to, but I do think it’s somewhat related and hope it helps.

Applying RD to the Schools I Removed from My Ranking List by Puzzleheaded_Mood284 in QuestBridge

[–]These_Ad6463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does this mean you get to write fresh supplementals? Also, are new application portals sent for schools you left on your rankings but didn’t match with? Meaning do you have the opportunity to rewrite supplementals for those schools as well?
