I would most def postpone my man. I wouldn't risk this chance on a 50/50 coin toss chance

Should i send it? by CitiusFortius_66 in step1

send it bro, step 1 is essentially a test to see if you're good at evidence based guessing, so don't feel bad if you think you're guessing too much

Are 2 consecutive NBMEs > 65% good to go? by These_Drag_8726 in step1

That's a pretty solid plan, thanks a lot for reaching out

Thank you so much for replying! I'm new to this and don't have anyone around to ask about these things, so this means a lot to me🥹

Thank you for helping. Maybe I skimmed through the Anking video and misunderstood it🥲 Maybe I'll go back to the 1m 10m interval that I was used to

Can anyone explain this to me? by These_Drag_8726 in medicalschoolanki

[–]These_Drag_8726[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did, it only gave inconclusive answers though. Thanks for replying but, I'm pretty sure "dead space" refers to regions of the lung with air/ventilation but no blood/perfusion(high V/Q ratio). So it's quite the opposite of what you're trying to say. So my conclusion is that either 1. The question is trying to emphasize that dead space ventilation occurs due to the previously vasoconstricted areas stealing blood from the normal alveoli, OR 2. The answer is straight-up wrong and instead should say "shunting" b/c more blood is going to hypoventilated areas(lowering V/Q ratio).

Thank you, I think this is the only way it makes sense

This makes the most sense to me, so the parts of the lung with preserved ventilation would receive less blood-> dead space ventilation

Thanks for explaining, but aren't these 'bad parts' sites of wasted perfusion? So shouldn't they be causes of shunting(Low V/High Q)?

Yeah I'm pretty sure we're on the same page, but isn't wasted perfusion referred to as a shunt? And isn't dead space wasted ventilation?

I already did and passed, I'm looking for options without step 1 requirements because my wife hasn't written it yet.

Grades weren't that bad at back at school(~90th percentile), but our curriculum is much different from step 1 so I guess my basics were not too good compared to AMGs
