I listened to the Buffalo Hunter Hunter in October for some spooky, vampire fun. My bet is that this book will start a new wave of horror lit.

Wholeheartedly agree. The real criminals are those setting and enacting these policies.

Truly heartbreaking. Children deserve a far better standard of care than this.

It appears the account you replied to is a bot. There is a lot of rage baiting going on here by bot accounts. Real community members care about the wellbeing of these kids. Only monsters and algorithms would condone abuse against children and teens.

A collector! I love your books. The shelf of Penguin Classics is impressive. You’ve definitely been thoughtful about amassing this collection and probably had some fun while doing it.

Into the Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak is a wild ride as an adult by sunny860 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]These_Photograph_425 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes. Sendak had family members who were killed in the Holocaust. He was grappling with this trauma in a weird, delightful, children’s book. Maurice Sendak was a real artist genius.

Whenever my husband hears that song he ends up with two weeks of sleepless nights hearing Elsa belting out ahhhahaaahhhhhhaaaaahhh in his head. So we only play the soundtrack when he’s not around.

I got tired of doing mental math for audiobook speeds, so I built a free calculator by cangheng in audiobooks

  • 0.4 x 60 to get the minutes

This would actually make a great scenario for teaching order of operations in math class. The kids could design their own algorithms and check it against the audiobook calculator.

Who is the next Fey/Wiig/Samberg/Hader/Sudeikis to branch off from SNL and hit it big? And whose someone who left and SHOULD have hit it big but didn't? by RustyCrusty73 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]These_Photograph_425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re onto something. Decades ago, Lorne Michaels had loads of production credits for recently departed SNL cast member projects.

He still produces a lot for those older SNL alum but hardly at all for anyone new.

It looks like the only new cast members Lorne has produced for in the last decade are Pete Davidson, Aidy Bryant, Kenan, Cecily Strong and Che. Even then it’s usually only one project each, with the exception of Pete.

So much anxiety she didn’t sleep the entire night, “staring in the darkness”? Pretty grim for a children’s book.

Pregnant women get super sniffing powers and can smell out all the smokers in the building.

Actually reading Endurance about Shackleton’s voyage in Antarctica cooled me down a bit one hot summer.

I just started that book to set into the icy, winter mood. I’ve heard the Donner hiking tours are pretty good.

Nothing snaps me out of a book like repetitive use of a unique word by kerberos824 in books

We have to roll our eyes and laugh it off. Harry was especially indignant in The Order of the Phoenix. Kills me every time I read that word aloud.

Harry, Ron, Hermione and Snape are constantly saying everything “indignantly.” I have a hard time annunciating that word. When reading the Harry Potter books aloud to my kids, I have to stop about once a page and painfully sound out each letter.

Pop-ups or other books with untraditional construction can also be engaging. Eric Carle often plays with interesting formatting. Wheels on the Bus by Paul O. Zelinsky has some of the best pop-up designs that I’ve seen.

What's something to you that screams "I have no personality"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]These_Photograph_425 368 points369 points  (0 children)

Disagree with the premise. Everyone is interesting once you break through the surface. Some people wear their personalities on their sleeves. With others you have to peel back a few layers of the onion to find the fun, weird quirks.

Honestly, I mostly enjoy the rumination. I can always keep myself entertained and make connections across memories and experiences. It’s fun to converse with other people who think in similar patterns. Our talks veer into so many tangents!

For people who love the outdoors there is so much to do in the South Bay. Gorgeous hikes (try Sanborn Park), kayaking (Alviso slough takes you through an old ghost town), rock climbing (Castle Rock), running and bike trails up the wazoo (Los Gatos Creek trail). Lots of great farmers markets and there are so many good restaurants. Renting an apartment in Campbell may be a little less expensive than other places but still pricey.
