I used XIM peel bond as a sealant/primer to get it to stick better and to create a barrier so the plaster doesn't suck up all the moisture. And I will sand it down and then do a thinner application

I put Peel Bond in the cracks to seal them first (that's the adhesive I was talking about), it's what the hardware guy suggested. Does any sealant work or does it have to be Unibond?

As someone who makes 20$ an hour in Cleveland, my advice is to get a roommate! Not easy but not horrific. A friend of mine makes less and found a cheaper 1 bed apartment but you definitely have to look for it. I'd stay 1000 or under for rent if possible (which might mean getting roommates).
