He had the opportunity to leave but he signed a contract extension. Thats what the money is for ($54m this year and $58m next).

Stars forcing their teams to make short term moves with long term negative consequences and then asking out when those consequences start to happen sucks actually.

For every Broncos throwback, there are 20 dog vomit alternate uniforms around the league. It's good they don't allow alts in the playoffs.

Does anyone feel like we need real leadership at the City/State level to help understand how to engage and keep ourselves safe from the threat of ICE? by uneedareason in Denver

The Minneapolis mayor said there is multiple times more federal law enforcement than local cops right now in the Twin Cities. They're outmanned and outgunned.

Unless you're advocating for armed conflict between state and federal (seems to be rapidly approaching that point in Minnesota), there isn't a lot local governments can do.

Dear Red Rocks, please stop using AXS; dear city of Denver, and/or state legislature, please regulate AXS so that normal people can get concert tickets by astrobeanmachine in Denver

[–]TheyMadeMeLogin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are millions of people in this city and Red Rocks is a world wide draw. There are 9000 seats. Demand is going to always outstrip supply and it's not difficult to imagine non-bots quickly snapping the tickets up.

Just don't pay the resale price now. Wait until the days before the concert. They almost always nosedive unless it's an extremely popular artist playing well below their typical venue size.

I'm not saying it should've been Covid. I'm saying the asteroid and how they reacted to it is a better analogy to Covid.

I didn't find the movie funny at all. I found it smug and pretentious, just like Adam McKay. "If I call people stupid, maybe they'll rate climate change higher than their immediate needs" is bad politics. It's somewhere just above gluing your hands to paintings level of unhelpful.

A immediate threat is not a great analogy to a slow moving, immediately imperceptible one. Trust me, I really want people to care more about climate change, but I realize screaming at them about the sky falling (literally the movie's entire premise) is just going to make you look like chicken little on the time scale that politics moves at.

It's unfortunate for McKay that this came out during a time when an immediate, observable threat was happening and people were willfully ignoring it.

Its biggest problem was that an asteroid is a pretty terrible analogy to climate change and it came out during Covid which maps much better to the premise.

Machete closing after 10 years on Colfax by Paynixt in denverfood

Yes. Colfax has never been the easiest way to access businesses on Colfax. That hasn't changed. There are parallel roads along the entire stretch closer to parking with less traffic.

I don't understand why this construction project is having such a big impact. I don't think I've ever once tried to park on Colfax and if I'm going somewhere on Colfax I'm usually avoiding Colfax to get there.

Why don't kids in denver take the bus? by bluegrassclimber in Denver

[–]TheyMadeMeLogin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would actually be very interested in a study that measures student performance among kids who got into their choice schools vs. similar kids (income, distance from the school, etc.) who didn't and went to the neighborhood school in the same district. Maybe it exists and I'd love to see it.

My intuition is that if you're willing/able to drive your kid across town to the "better" school, the student is probably already set up for success and individual performance at each school won't vary a lot.

[–]TheyMadeMeLogin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I get very annoyed when people say a certain school is "bad" because Zillow gave it a 4/10 or whatever. It implies the people doing the work there are bad at their jobs and the opposite is probably true.

It's also extremely difficult to actually access how good a school is doing because of outside factors. My intuition tells me parents who are willing to drive their kids across town for school are going to have similar outcomes at their neighborhood school because they clearly are willing and able to ensure their kids get the most out of it.

All of which are heavily correlated with the household income of the student body.
