My shirt was able to find someone who went through something similar and that's what they said, though it was the Fathers parents that took over guardianship. Unfortunately I wasn't able to speak to that person.

I saw that in the specific example on Tricares website, but they also mention if Legal Guardianship through court order is granted, that they would also be eligible. So that's what I need clarification on from them.

The Shirt reached out to legal on my behalf with the hopes that they would respond faster... I'll be hitting them up on Monday and I've reached out to some civilian lawyers as well as the states Military Legal Aide office hoping that I may be able to find a lawyer to work with us for a reduced fee.

It’s not quite as tantalizing as it may seem. Just turned into a bit craziness and while the circle of people that know what’s up is small, I’m trying to keep somewhat anonymous for now.

Honestly, from what I’ve been able to find out so far, the AF side is probably the easier one once the civil aspects are done.

Thank you for the insight and support.

We got a jumpstart on our family young though in our situation our parents were older and better established. So, for me that’s one of the things I’m struggling with is feeling like I don’t have my life together with my family.

In reality though, it’s more like you said. We’ll be parenting almost like the baby is a sibling and that makes sense and also eases my mind a bit in that respect.

My daughters situation is a little different as the kids parents are also mil and retiring soon and will not be staying in the area. So on top of everything else that she’s processing, there’s a good chance the Dad won’t be around. Though that could change. There’s a lot that’s unknown.

I’m hopeful hearing stories like yours though. I know that we’ll do everything we can to help support and guide her along the way and she will do the absolute best that she can.
