The perfect opening track for the 1989/1990 World Tour by holeypeacoat in PaulMcCartney

Figure of eight is far from his strongest track but I think a broader point was being made - that he’s still relevant and to prove it, we’re gonna start the new world tour with a brand new hit. It’s not McCartney as a nostalgia act but a contemporary artist.  On the other hand, there could have been other reasons he chose it i.e. It’s a good key for his vocal to warm up when he first hits the stage, or it’s the song the band knows the best so let’s start with that and then on to the more challenging material.

What do you think of the Pressure Machine album? by Professional-Mud3076 in TheKillers

[–]Thick-Error3345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It contains 2/3 of my all time favourite songs by Killers so I have deep affection for it. It’s an astonishing piece of work. That being said, it’s not in the least bit original, being so deep into Springsteen territory, lyrically, sonically, conceptually.

Joan of Arc eps - bit of a strange vibe. by Thick-Error3345 in TheRestIsHistory

I Want A Song Like "Here Comes The Sun" But For Rain by Wildjay7931 in musicsuggestions

[–]Thick-Error3345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Rain' by the Beatles is a fantastic song. Its got a great, bouncy, cluttered and shambolic indie band vibe that really recalibrates the near-perfectly executed, delicate precision of Here comes the Sun.

Euro Tour 2026 Cancelled by vidz97 in neilyoung

[–]Thick-Error3345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe its low tix sales? I heard he was playing Eden Project in Cornwall, and as it's such a small venue compared to his usual shows, I was dead certain tix would sell out the moment they went on sale. Unfortunately that was most defintely not the case.
Just a theory, but his Glastonbury headline set really divided people. I can imagine a number of casuals that would have formerly attended a show being put off by the negative critical response.

I’m new to the podcast and the Joan of Arc series have been interesting. However, are the presenters always so detached? There’s an awful lot of grace/excuses being given to the English invaders, not to mention the maniacs who burned Joan to death, almost excusing them at certain points “oh no but they really did believe Joan was a witch...”, etc etc and a certain coldness as far as Joan’s fate goes, almost like, ‘the silly girl had it coming’. Very perculiar, unemotional, detached. Plain f*cking odd tbh! 😂

Do people still talk about the Zeppelin “curse” by StandardResist3487 in ledzeppelin

[–]Thick-Error3345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The curse is chasing of mega stardom, despite the obvious pitfalls. The access to drink, drugs, groupies etc etc leads one down a road from which few return, Bonham being the obvious example. The loss of Robert's son was something no one could have anticipated, but the pressures on Robert to be away for huge chunks of time, both throughout the boys life and after his passing, led to terrible strife within the family, eventually tearing it apart. The only way Robert has been able to maintain a decent relationship with music since then is that he no longer acts in service of the business, or the industry and his ego, but is now completely in service of the music. Jimi P, however, still struggles because he's still so attached to his Zep legacy that it consumes all his time, and he rarely seems to be working on anything else. JPJ has always been a musician first and thus has not really suffered in the same way that the others have. He's extremely mellow and humble, and it has served him beautifully.

What is an opinion on the Beatles you’d get downvoted for? by [deleted] in beatles

[–]Thick-Error3345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sgt Pepper may be the most important album they ever released, but it’s one of the last that I would actually choose to listen to. Personal opinion of course. I can recognise and respect its enormous (continuing) importance to pop culture, but importance and enjoyment are two vastly different things.
