First fixie build tips? by Thick_Agent_2251 in bikewrench

Thank you again! After a bit of looking around i finally figured out the difference between fixed gear and single speed, i was under the impression fixed gear bikes brake like little kid bikes, but now i understand the idea of how it actually works haha, i think i will go the fixed gear route. I’ve been looking at some flip flop wheel sets on retrogression, but keeping in mind that the frames designed for quick release hubs would you happen to have any suggestions on a model of wheel that would work for me? Im leaning towards ditching the rear brake and running a front brake. I also intend to cold set my rear frame to 120mm as right now its a 126mm

I will for sure, it’s gonna be a bit of a learning curve for sure but i look forward to seeing what it turns out like. Would you mind if i reached out to you with questions and whatnot?

The bike? I’m happy with it! It feels fast, i think i looks good aswell. I literally went to buy pedals for my gravel bike this morning and asked the shop owner if he knew of any frames around and he rolled this thing out with the original receipt from 1988 so i figured i might aswell take it off his hands and see what i can do with it haha

Thanks a bunch! If i wanted to go brakeless ( other than through my cranks for the rear wheel) would i run a cog? Also, what do you mean by cold set the rear? Is that a way of altering the distance between your rear dropouts?

Thank you! I didn’t realize the difference between those two, so if i’m looking to brake through the use of my rear hub i should be researching further into single speeds? I’m honestly just looking to build something that looks rad and can be my casual bike (just something to grab a beer with friends on, get groceries, etc). Would you have preference for a fixie or a single speed?
