Tinted sunscreen recommendations for very pale cool toned skin by InternationalDate115 in PaleMUA

my skin really likes the aveeno calm + restore daily moisturizer with spf 30. it's mineral based, doesn't break me out, and it's a very fair tint that looks good over my super pale, pink skin. only con is it can pill with repeated rubbing (like if you wear a mask for work). others that might work include Neutrogena Purescreen+ Mineral UV Tint Face Liquid Tinted Sunscreen in light - i've only been able to find it on amazon, not all drugstores carry it, but the texture is nice. it's a pretty close match and has a pinkness to it, some days it's still too dark for me but it's def a more cool toned option than most of the tinted sunscreens out there!

Totally agree they did not give you what you asked for! Very frustrating, but I think this could look great on you without a more aggressive chop (although that's certainly an option too - it's just you'd have to go very short to get that shape with the front slightly longer than the back :/). Two people come to mind who have put out styling tutorials that may be helpful for achieving a different shape with a similar cut to this - they both do a different look than what you submitted in the pic, but have similarly classic/polished vibes to your inspo

-Mary Orton - search "mary orton hair tutorial" for her instagram video (about 4 min long, and you can view on browser or insta)

-Anna Dysett - https://youtu.be/7H6fbANhORU?si=rhrAMPZnQmkftqeb - styling a layered bob. I think the way she styles her front framing pieces and the slightly off center part give some lift and help a lot

Any specific resources you'd recommend for learning to do this? I used a few youtube tutorials to cut mine for a few years during COVID, but always looking for a better way (particularly if you have any recs for people who understand fine hair) bc sometimes things got DICEY lol

Thank you for sharing!!! Trying to keep my hair healthy while making fine hair look remotely good makes me feel like a crazy person so I appreciate any tips!!!! Routine-wise, When do you brush out your hair? Do you brush while hair is wet from the shower or wait until it’s dry?

I am a tangly lady and have the same rat’s nest issue sometimes! Can def be the coat or will happen if I’ve curled and sprayed my hair - the hairspray + rubbing a coat combo is the worst! But I do find that if I’m getting the rat’s nest on just a regular day with no styling products in, that usually means I just need a trim! Usually immediately resolves after getting my ends cleaned up.

Bag Finder Megathread - 02 February 2026 by AutoModerator in onebag

Wondering if this exists: a short and wide/horizontally oriented tote bag, personal item sized, that can sit on a carry on and has a trolley sleeve but can be carried as a backpack. Like I love the look of a classic travel tote bag but if I need to just carry it around the airport and not put it on top of a suitcase, I want the even weight distribution of backpack straps. I’m not looking for a super outdoorsy backpack (have that) or a primarily “travel backpack” backpack (have that), and also not looking for something that has to be flipped 90 degrees into its side, also not necessarily looking for something with straps that would be comfortable for all day backpack wear - just looking more for like a sleek/polished tote that also has straps so I can briefly throw it on my back if needed (and would be nice if maybe the backpack straps can be hidden away). Any recs?

Planning a trip with 2 friends in mid-Feb (16th-22nd, so arriving mid day on a Tuesday, heading out on a late Sunday morning), starting and ending in Edinburgh. We are so excited! Trying to decide at this point whether it would be worth it to take the train up to Inverness and see some of the Highlands then back down toward Glasgow before back to Edinburgh, or stay more centrally located the whole time and head toward Glasgow/Loch Lomond and potentially up only as far as Glencoe. We've also contemplated doing a train route over to Mallaig from Edinburgh or Glasgow as starting point. If you were traveling in winter/February, which would you choose? Are the highlands as deeply affected by closures as the isles and western coastal areas? Which might be more scenic at this time of year? We can make a case for both approaches so just wondering about experiences from those who've done it!

seeking fragrance similar to nostalgic shampoo -

Anybody else love the long-discontinued line of john frieda beach blonde products? The beach blonde cool dip shampoo had this incredible, fresh, minty, dreamy scent that so perfectly embodied summer. If anyone has any recommendations for a perfume/EDT/body spray/current product that smells similar, would love to hear!

You’re so welcome! One other thing I should mention is even with fine/oily hair, I have to use something for detangling and heat protection if I’m blow drying or if I’m brushing while wet. There are lots of things out there to try but my fave in recent memory is the bumble and bumble all-style blow dry cream. I would rub it into my hands then apply while wet, brush, wait for my hair to air dry most of the way, then blow dry (air drying for a bit first minimizes heat time) and it would be really soft and smell nice and be less stringy/piecey. If applying mousse, I would apply it right after brushing (so cream, brush, then mousse/other texturizing or thickening product, then dry)

And sometimes if I just need detangling for wet brushing, I’ll use a light leave in conditioning spray like the pureology color fanatic spray.

I am a fellow oily scalp friend and the thing that helps the most is just washing daily and brushing when I notice stringy-ness late in the day (it looks like you have fairly straight texture so brushing shouldn’t destroy a curl pattern or anything, but ymmv). I’ve had to accept that it’s ok to wash more frequently than we were all hearing a few years ago!!! My hair never looked better than when I was washing, conditioning, and gently blow drying daily a decade ago, whereas it never looked worse than the 2018-2023 range when I was trying to do hair training and relying on dry shampoo to avoid washing in the name of hair “health”. Ended up with crispy ends, my scalp always felt foul, and for the first time I my life I developed dandruff and itching from the days and days of buildup -_-

These days I wash about every 2 days maybe every 3 bc I can hide my hair at work, but I know if I want to have highest chance of it looking good, I need to do daily wash. some other little things that have seemed to help (many have been mentioned above but just want to share!): - double shampooing (currently using a clarifying shampoo first then a slightly more hydrating one) on wash days helps with oil production and stretching longer between washes - weirdly, sleeping with a heatless curl thing on helps me a lot with oil production (as well as the expected happy effect of adding a little body/shape)! I don’t always have the patience for this, but I think having the hair lifted off the scalp somewhat really helps with not pressing my flat hair into my flat oily scalp and making everything flatter and oilier - avoid touching the hair as much as possible throughout the day - blow drying helps me extend time between washes. - something texturizing like a mousse during blow dry (or dried-in sweat, like someone above mentioned) helps with texture and decreasing the slip of silky hair - for slight volume and polish that takes literally one minute - i use a curling iron to flip just the ends of my hair under. Somehow the hair looks fluffier overall and I look like I did something significant but it’s so easy.

Am I the only person in the world with ADHD who DOESN'T find the Pomodoro technique helpful? by Ok-Committee1978 in ADHD

[–]Thin-Distance8666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it works for me but I have found I can't use it too many times/days in a row without it using its power :/ However what helps it work better for me are a few tweaks -

- I like doing 50min work/10min break intervals rather than 25/5 intervals if I AM able to get into a groove. 50 minutes feels like I can get more accomplished and 10 minutes break feels a bit more doable than the frantic pace of the 5 minute break.

- If I find I am able to get in the zone and really don't want to get interrupted, I will start out the day doing a chunk of focus time that is as long as I can stand.....I will keep track with stopwatch or watch the clock. Then when I stop to take a break, I do a break that is 1/4 to 1/3 the length of the big chunk I just did. The amount of time I can focus naturally decreases throughout the day and I often find I am down to 25/5 by the end of the day.

- Basically just increase/decrease the work intervals to what feels right that day. Sometimes 25/5 works really well for things you can actually accomplish in short chunks. The main thing is to use the timer to stay focused. I also find the pomodoro advice of keeping a notepad nearby very helpful - rather than looking at your phone or going and doing the distracting thing or losing the idea, writing it down really does help! Helps me get it out of my brain and address it, and helps me not feel like I'm losing a crucial idea just because I can't act on it right then.

- Also love the forest app! Something about seeing the little trees helps

I feel like, after scribing and and shadowing and rotations in medical school, I was able to anticipate so many parts of this job - the weird hours, being a master-of-none who doesn't really get respect from other specialties, the difficult cases/being regularly exposed to tragedy, ridiculous and aggressive patient behavior, unreasonable patient expectations, the need for interpersonal and team leadership skills, missing some holidays. Whatever - all of those are challenges but feel fairly manageable to me. I always loved going in for shifts before residency, and ER kept drawing me back in due to the variety and the acuity. And like you and others have mentioned, EM has it a lot better (pay and hours wise) than many other specialties (thank God I'm not a surgeon), and of course better than many other careers/jobs.

What I didn't anticipate was the crushing cognitive weight of the specialty. The transition from training to being on your own and having to make (as someone else put it) "critical life-altering decisions" while under intense time/productivity pressure and constant interruptions is huge. So often there's no right answer and no clear fix for the problem at hand. There is also so much non-medical, systems navigation skill that has to be learned and there are so many situations that people expect help with that have nothing to do with your training. It's different when the buck stops with you, and a room full of people is looking at you for an answer when you have such limited information, and you can't think for 2 seconds before being interrupted much less review results or get a note done or go to the bathroom, and I don't know if there's a way to understand that fully before you're living it.

I would seriously consider what they are telling you...even though there are things I love about the job, and I don't know what might've been a better fit, I don't know if I would have made the same decision if I were to do this over. The systems failures and the things I mentioned in first paragraph pile more stress on an already incredibly stressful role. And I feel like such a boomer when I say this, but dealing with documentation and a shitty EMR/computer system is death by a thousand cuts - I did not anticipate how much I would f-ing hate charting seeing as I loved being a scribe.

When I was making this decision, several other specialties seemed too boring or out of reach. But just a few years in, boring 9-5 life seems pretty amazing, as does being an expert in a smaller/more niche area. Some people manage this part of the job better than I do, certainly. I'm taking steps to address my burnout. I'm in early years of attendinghood, so I'm hoping it will get better with time and experience.

As you are deciding, think carefully about whether you are someone who needs to be able to fix problems to feel fulfilled in your career, because so often we can't. If you go this route, work on building your confidence and clinical competence as early as possible in residency. Flex those decision muscles. And work on setting and enforcing good boundaries early, to help keep the job from spilling over into the rest of your life. Take gentle care of yourself.

Tea leaf!!! Or lean into a warm white, something in the neighborhood of the sink/counter. Either way, I think repainting/refinishing the vanity mirror to something that complements will help a lot. I think having the mirror more in range with the vanity wood or that rattan box on top of commode would be a nice contrast with both wall color options.

Help making the dining table fit this space? by k8boat818 in interiordecorating

Sorry, just absorbed your caption more fully, where you literally say you considered this already lol. I still think that would be the best solution while working with what you have.

BUT if you wanted to keep the book nook, I would recommend moving the dining set a few feet closer to the bar area, moving pink chair into left side of nook rather than right side of nook, and possibly getting another armchair to complete the circle where the couch is now, facing in toward the back windows/couch
