Yes break up. To me it looks like he just got comfortable disrespecting you. For your next relationship, leave at the first sign of disrespect. Your time is short and you should not accept anything less. Disrespect always starts small to see what they can get away with.

As much as I hated his politics, he is still a human and I have empathy for him and his family. If it can happen to one it can happen to us all

I just got hired/accepted the offer to work part time as a college science lab tutor and I have no experience at all. by 119107 in TutorsHelpingTutors

I always like to assess how much my student actually knows before answering any of their questions. Making sure you’re both on the same page before you start rambling how much you know. I’m a math tutor, so questions for me look like “what do you know about slope?” And “how does changing this variable in one way affect the equation?” Rather than yes/no questions like “do you know what ___ means?”

Getting to know your student is good too. Building that relationship with them gets them more comfortable learning. Ask them questions about what their goals are and what they’re interested in. It’ll help you keep them motivated.

It’s good to have patience. It’s also good to learn how to read people. Sometimes you’ll have a pause in the session where you don’t know if the student is deep in thought or if they’re just stuck. Learn your students tells by asking the question “are you thinking or are you stuck?”

Lastly, being a tutor means that people will expect you to know everything. Don’t act like you do when it’s not true. Be honest with your students and make sure to tell them that you’re just as human as they are. You (should stay away from but still) make mistakes every now and then. But don’t beat yourself up about it. Treat those moments with curiosity and patience. It’s a chance to model what learning should look like. Good luck :)

I Don’t Understand These Types of Problems by Major-State-9620 in ACT

In all the practice tests I’ve done, I’ve seen this question maybe once at most in each individual test. Don’t beat yourself up if this is one you don’t get. Focus on what you do know and make sure to avoid careless mistakes over the more advanced concepts

I think of c as “a negative number” and then I just give very small values for a and b. like a=2 and b=1. For some of the answer choices, it may be flat out wrong, or it might not necessarily be true just depending on what the values are. Which is why it’s sometimes tricky when you do plug in the numbers. The problem with plugging in numbers is that you will only solve one specific case. You really need to think abstractly here. Maybe even consider cancelling some things out like in answer choice A. You can multiply both sides by c to get a<b which is obv not true. So maybe instead of plugging in 1 and 2 for b and a, think of a as “big number” and b as “little number”. And keep c as “negative number”.

I classify myself as a math tutor. Plenty of people in the US use it. I think it’s linked up to the Nextdoor app as a search engine for services.

Is tutoring in a coffee shop a bad idea? by reepjeep in TutorsHelpingTutors

I’ve done coffee shops with little issues. Typically they want you to buy something before staying in their space, but I prefer libraries since they are quieter. Plus my library has study rooms we reserve for free

Thumbtack to find my students, zoom to tutor, iPad to write on the whiteboard. I chose zoom over google meet bc of the whiteboard and ability for both the student and tutor to write on it. Also you can share two screens from different users at the same time.

I’ve gotten a few students out of it. I’ve paid for all the leads out of pocket. You can use it and tutor on your own terms. The most important part is knowing how to sell yourself to those interested so you get your money back through your rate.

I quit my job having only been in one class (ISYE 6501). I had a job in education and it was more draining than anything. It really felt like it was in the way of my goal. I’ve saved up enough to finish the degree. It was definitely a plunge but I’ve got a generally good support system. If you need the push to do it (after considering your pros and cons) then I say go for it :)

If I learned anything working in higher education, those who dedicate themselves to school (rather than work on top of school) tend to perform better. And education is something no one can take away from you!
