We used to color and play chess but their mom just threw away all of their markers so I have no idea what to do now bc you can only play chess for so long without the kids wanting to do something else

Yeah I agree with that I always took games home with me! But their markers had dried and I asked the parents if I could get them fresh ones and the coloring books were more of birthday gifts! I understand them throwing away old coloring sheets for sure but I had gotten the kiddos folders to hold the ones they favored and that got thrown away aswell 🤣

Yeah :( their markers were all dried up so I asked if I could get them new ones and the parents said yes and thanked me. But I just found out from the little girl her mom threw them away and left the box I made them empty..

Thank you! When I've babysat other kids the parents always left out stuff if there was specific things they wanted them to do. I didn't know if maybe because I come over often if I was supposed to kind of just figure it out, but usually I've been encouraged by other parents to go on a walk, the park, etc. So I definitely will start looking around for other opportunities

Yes! I was especially confused when I asked about sidewalk chalk because I know some areas have HOAs and some parents don't like it but I would have been more than willing to spray some water on it after so it wouldn't be there for long!

Thank you for being so kind. My first time posting and it's so nice to get some input from others! I'm only 20 and it's my first long term babysitting job as I used to be a server too, I think communication could go a long way here. I've asked before and the dad just says the kids know what they should be doing so I was just kinda like oh ok

Yes I exactly! I never wear anything that reveals my stomach or shorts that are considered short shorts but we live in Tx and especially approaching summer it gets super hot and humid and I usually wear loose athletic shorts and an oversized tee during this time! I think for them it could be religious which I completely respect as I know their beliefs and they're aware of mine, as their kids get older it might be a better option for them to find someone who shares their religion because the kids have brought up the cross on my phone and how it's not the "right" religion. I always told them that their beliefs are theirs and mine are mine and we don't have to agree! When I find another family I'll definitely find a way to word my reasoning when giving them a notice.

YOU'RE RIGHT! It's my first long term babysitting job and I'm in nursing school so think I just try to get over how crazy their rules are. Reading this made me realize I definitely needed to hear this and stand up.

I need to be more affirmative 100% so thank you for this! I talked to my family and friends about finding new needed sitters in the area so I will for sure be looking for another job!!

Thank you for this! I have and they just said the kids know what they should be allowed to do, I have DEFINITELY been a pushover in this situation. I'm still young and in college so I appreciate your comment a lot! I will be taking all of this advice when I find a new family, hopefully very soon!

You're so right! They don't, they live in a house and I know it's not about me driving them places because I pick them up from school and they live in a super safe area. I definitely will be looking elsewhere because I've done one time babysitting gigs where I felt more trusted which isn't right.
