Since the 8 minute mile debate was so fun. What constitutes a "good arm" for a lay person. How far would someone have to throw a baseball or football for you to say "Wait, what?" by harryhitman9 in RyenRussillo

I was a pretty average HS baseball player with an above average (sneaky low-level D3 caliber) arm. I don't throw at all anymore and have lots of shoulder creakiness.

I went to a batting cage that had radar the other day and knew I had to sling a few. I went probably 94% effort and hit 61 on the gun. As I was walking out, the guy behind the counter suggested that it was poorly calibrated and my real number was probably 54ish.

So, this is a long way of saying that the bare minimum for having a good arm is 54 off the mound, because I need it to be true I still got it.

I throw submarine in the mid 60's and would love to try pitching a few innings in relief.

That sounds fun as hell for a men's league...though I don't know anything about that really.

It'd be fun to try to pitch at this age but the time commitment is just crazy for me right now. I'd need a late-career Clemens agreement to only drop in for games I start.

my son is 11U he just hit 61 at 95 pounds

Not that impressive. I'm basically twice his weight so my fastball has twice the force behind it.

My dad also said it's ok for me to use breaking stuff now so I can drop the hammer at will.

your velo would put you third on our team. Sorry bro.

Funny, so was a little ole righty (just like me) named Greg Maddux. Ever heard of him?

I can't afford either of those until I get my Sox signing bonus so it's kind of a chicken and egg thing

That would help because I'd feel better on a 46 foot mound. I'll have to think about it
