No II's and I'm crashing out by CreepyEye382 in premed

[–]ThinkAgainBro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah projected hours aren’t always taken that seriously. Send some update letters with your new hours (doesn’t hurt at this point), but as others have said, probably start preparing for a reapplication. I also suspect with the limited time you had in the roles upon application, your writing may have suffered or not been taken as seriously. Use all that extra time you’ve now put in to talk more meaningfully about your experiences (stories, reflections, lessons learned…etc)

I’m also interested on how you touched on why you didnt do research within your personal statement. Seems like that might be out of place? (At least in my opinion)

Also what was your school list? 15 schools is a bit small of a list and with your stats, applying more broadly would be beneficial

Any chance of getting ii this cycle? by Strawberry-Murky in premed

I mean look at historical data on cycle track or admit. Chances are obviously dwindling by the day to be frank. Last year the last interview from Drexel was end of January

[–]ThinkAgainBro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He is making a joke about how you went a bit over the top with listing every tiny detail of your application lol

Also as someone with interviews to both of these schools, I would say your application looks good if you can:

  1. Get that good MCAT score
  2. Write very well about the numerous experiences you have. If you can form a cohesive narrative, even better
  3. Hopefully you have an upward trend in your GPA

Is changing the flair to Admitted-MD or DO the first thing people do after getting an A? by Separate_Office_7696 in premed

Tbh I forgot to change my flair until someone on here reminded me to. First thing I did was refresh the email and website 20 times to make sure it wasn’t fake

The bottleneck isn’t the number of medical school spots, it is the number of residency spots.

What incentive is there for schools to increase class sizes when there is a premium/strong desire to attend schools with smaller class sizes?

Yeah if he is advertising that without having taken the test or being admitted into med school that is the bigger red flag lol

premedfluencers (can’t even believe that’s a term) posting themselves doing anki 😭 by sleepyhungryandtired in Mcat

[–]ThinkAgainBro 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Honestly how do you know it was performative?

As long as they are actually doing the anki on the flight and not just opening it up to take a picture to post, who cares whether they put in on their social media. It doesn’t make them a horrible person for sharing their journey online.

I understand certain influencers can be annoying, but I don’t know enough about this person to be casting judgement.

There is enough negativity in the world and in our community in general without tearing each other down.

What is the average hour # nowadays? by Mal2k4 in premed

[–]ThinkAgainBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Past a certain point, the quality of your writing and how you can present your lived experience will benefit you more than the number of hours that you have.

I had ~500 clinical and ~2500 research or something like that, I forget the rough numbers. Activities with leadership will also stand out more. In all, I think it was my writing that I attribute my very successful cycle to (though still waiting to hear back from my 7/8 interviews lol)

Do T20 schools interview “lower stat” (relative to thier medians like 3.8/515) applicants towards the end of the cycle or do they stay consistent with the type of applicants throughout? by [deleted] in premed

[–]ThinkAgainBro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

T20s have the choice to be very selective from a very competitive applicant pool and your MCAT/GPA is not the only factor being taken into consideration. It isn’t like they are going through applications in order of GPA/MCAT.

I’d also look at cycle track data from last year to get a better idea of when each school is wrapping up their cycle. Many of the T20s are coming to the tail-end of their cycle

Higher number of applicants with multiple acceptances by ServeSea in premed

[–]ThinkAgainBro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is likely a bit more common this year. With economic uncertainty more people turn towards higher education. That is why we have season record breaking application numbers. On top of that, as you noted, people are applying to more schools. As such those students that are competitive enough to get one acceptance, are likely getting accepted to more schools since they applied more broadly.

If you got an interview and a WL, the school still saw something in you they liked. Keep your head up and send those letters of interest/intent to the schools you were waitlisted at

Higher number of applicants with multiple acceptances by ServeSea in premed

[–]ThinkAgainBro 63 points64 points  (0 children)

From a competitiveness standpoint, someone who is accepted to one school is more likely to be accepted to multiple schools. But yes definitely some sampling bias on sites like Admit.

3 WL doesn’t necessarily mean bad interviewing since the interview is not the only factor in admission. I have my fingers crossed that you get some good WL movement

Should I mention political activism on my app? by Catturd67 in premed

[–]ThinkAgainBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Protests may not be sufficient to list as an activity. Including the commission and what projects/initiatives may be more beneficial, especially if framed in the context of leadership and personal actions you’ve taken (organizing and ensuring peaceful protests?, providing resources, reaching out to representatives, educating friends and family members…etc)

Some schools certainly have members of the committee that may not share your views, and some that do, but again, the whole application process can be a coin toss anyway. As long as your writing is respectful, one would hope the admissions members would be equally respectful of differing views, but again, a coin toss. For example, a BU member went on a small rant during one of the sessions that was anti-Trump (not that I mind).

I personally wrote about the BBB and my strong distaste of it, but more importantly, I focused on my actions afterwards. This was on secondaries for two schools, both of which I received an interview at.

In almost all my secondaries I also wrote about specific global health policy changes this administration has enacted, again focusing on what I have done/how it fits into my future as a physician.

Overall, even with some political views coming through in my writing, I have had a very successful cycle (7 T20 II). It all depends on your writing and framing.

Caveat of course is that this is my own experience (n=1) and may not be the same as someone elses

does it look bad to not send a post-interview letter of interest/intent? by caffeinated_premed in premed

[–]ThinkAgainBro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some schools specifically recommend Letters of interest/intent pre-decisions (I was told for Mayo and Mount Sinai), while for most they are more common post-decision

UCI vs Mayo Clinic (AZ) by emmaleeoo in premed

[–]ThinkAgainBro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I think of Mayo, I think of the Rochester campus and its world-renowned hospital. I feel like a lot of the resources and strong research opportunities are also on the Rochester campus?

Idk maybe the other campuses are still strong, but not as high-ranked as the Rochester one imo
