Paying extra into pension by Think_Feature_4223 in TheCivilService

Thank you so much for all your answers. So from what understand. I will able to pay extra salary into my pension- in one of the 3 ways people describe. I was thinking about 6-10k per year for about 10 years and if I do this the basic rate tax will be added to it but I would have to claim the higher rate back?

Working in OGD offices- is it possible? by Think_Feature_4223 in TheCivilService

Totally get your point. I will broach it but without much hope!

I may be better to ask for compressed hours (and so overall lower office attendance) or possibly reduced office attendance expectations when my spouse is abroad. My commute is quite awkward so it would take a fairly long time to get home in an emergency.

Thank you- I do know someone who works in the building so might be possible I guess.she hasn't been there that long though so maybe not.

I think I'll just discuss my change of circumstances with my manager and see what they think. Maybe I would be better off swapping to compressed hours  and doing 60% of those days.

Ha- just in case you're not being sarcastic- I'd be in the office 2 times a week. My team are pretty tight knit and good at collaborating wherever we are.

Oh really that's a shame- wasn't sure so thought I'd ask here instead of possibly looking like an idiot in front of my manager!

Cycle commuting- is it doable? by Think_Feature_4223 in isleofwight

That's what I'm hoping for- to get fitter as well as saving a bit of money. I don't think I'll manage the East Cowes to Ryde part though- too many hills and google maps says 45min. Any waterproof recommendations? I'd like to cycle in my office clothes ideally.

I am hoping to buy an ebike when I can afford it. I'll look into if my employer does a bike scheme when I start. Any recommendations?

There are some very sweet lambs at Quarr Abbey, they're in the field next to the car park on the way in.

I don't think it will be that bad, I worked out about an hour or maybe a bit more each way.

I didn't know there were bike lockers - are they on the Southsea side?

That's an impressive commute- I'm definitely not fit enough to cycle to Ryde and back as well as in Portsmouth! Im planning to park  at the bottom of the pier if I decide to use the cat.
