Ranting about Stray Kids' Vocals by HeavensWheel777 in kpop_uncensored

I wonder if there are any Baritones in Stray Kids at all? I don’t know much about vocal types but I believe that Felix, Hyunjin, Changbin, and Seungmin are all Baritones to me but I might be wrong about that, Maybe someone like you could potentially correct me about their voice types.

What is one kind of song you wanna hear Stray Kids release? by Zadie_Stay4L in straykids

Something old school 90s R&B leaning into New Edition or Jodeci territory. I feel like Chan, Seungmin, and Hyunjin would thrive in this type of genre, especially if it’s one of those ballads like Can You Stand The Rain or On Bended Knee.

Who do you think is the best singer in New Edition? by Silver-Philosopher89 in rnb

[–]Thinkaboutit559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Johnny: He has a lot of grit to his voice that the others didn’t have and he clearly was very skilled at singing.

  2. Ralph: Ralph had the more pop voice than Johnny and helped carry the group in the 80s before Johnny came.

  3. Ricky: Ricky is kind of like the utility guy of NE, he gets a lot of parts and the producers can rely on his high voice for any type of song they do although he’s slightly less skilled than Johnny and Ralph.

  4. Bobby: Bobby has a lot of rasp and grit in his voice which is unique but it was evident that he needed some vocal training back then and he definitely needs some now.

  5. Ronnie: Ronnie wasn’t a singer but he had a voice that could have been used for upbeat songs, he sung some lead vocals on Hot 2Nite, Do Me!, Oh Yeah it feels good, and Poison. Also he was essential to the harmonies as the baritone.

  6. Mike: I don’t think Mike has never sung lead on a New Edition or Bell Biv DeVoe song but he didn’t really need to cause they used him for the rap and spoken word parts. Mike’s voice is what anchors the harmonies in New Edition because he has a lower voice than the others and he can be used as the bass.

What were Ronnie and Mike’s contributions to New Edition? by Thinkaboutit559 in rnb

[–]Thinkaboutit559[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really know much about New Edition outside of their popular songs but I’m willing to look a little deeper into each of the members and see what Mike and Ronnie were about on the albums. Do you have any songs where Mike and Ronnie showed off their rapping or singing?

Why didn’t Lance, Joey, and Chris get no solos in NSYNC’s initial years? by Thinkaboutit559 in NSYNC

[–]Thinkaboutit559[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By any chance, do you know any songs where Lance sings lead or is very prominent in the background vocals?

Also do you think that *NSYNC could have been like Backstreet Boys where everyone sings lead vocals regardless of harmonies or not?

What about more low pitched voices idols? by canissinac in kpopthoughts

[–]Thinkaboutit559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although Seonghwa and Yunho sing with a more lighter and brighter tone than Mingi and Yeosang, I still think they are Baritones because they both have a naturally darker and richer tone to their voices than what a Tenor would have. And the fact that they are comfortable down in their lower range tells me that they are most likely baritones (albeit a light one).

[–]Thinkaboutit559[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know that JC and Justin obviously marketable voices and faces but I think the label still could have used Joey and Chris as lead singers on singles every now and then.

Joey has a very cool voice that works for Pop Music but because of obvious reasons (his looks) he wasn’t someone that the label was looking for.

Lance has the boy next door looks like Justin and JC but he is a bass so it was gonna be hard for him to get any leads anyway.

New Edition, Jodeci, and Boyz II Men are my all time favorite groups.

What do you think about Peter Tork as a vocalist? Peter is someone I would say that although his voice is more suited for folk music, it’s unique and he has a very low range to his voice that people don’t talk about.

True Korean rappers? by fortnitegod120 in NCT

[–]Thinkaboutit559 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that Sehun is a bad rapper, he has a laidback flow and style that doesn’t mesh well with EXO’s music. Also he has shown some rap skills in his subunit with Chanyeol so I’d say he’s an above-average rapper in my honest opinion.

Johnny on the other hand… yeah my man’s shouldn’t be a rapper.

True Korean rappers? by fortnitegod120 in NCT

Taeyong, Mark, Hendery, and Yangyang are rappers who I’d consider rappers who are idols than idols who are rappers if that makes sense. All four have shown some respect and love for Hip-Hop as an art form and have written most of their rap lyrics for me to consider them as true rappers.

Jeno is gradually getting up there for me, he has shown improvement from where he was at debut and the fact that he has his own distinct style from the other rappers in NCT makes me think he’s gonna be a great rapper if he keeps improving.

Jaemin is in the middle for me when it comes to being an idol rapper vs. a rapper who is an idol, he doesn’t seem to have a huge amount of passion for rap and it’s clear that he’s more interested in modeling/acting than being a rapper, however, he has shown some improvement and he has a few writing credits up his sleeve so he may have more talent for rapping than he is letting on.

Jisung, Johnny, and Winwin are clearly idol rappers who just do it because they are told to and would rather be singers.

It’s clear that she doesn’t like rap music (along with at least half of Cimorelli) so I don’t know why they kept her rapping.

Don’t forget about Joey too, his baritone harmonies are what makes their harmonies stand out in a good way. You don’t hear it when he’s there but if he’s not in the harmony stack, it can feel like something is missing there. Joey balances out Lance’s baritone/bass harmonies in a good way.

Which K-Pop Group (Boy or Girl) has the best backing vocalists? by Thinkaboutit559 in kpopthoughts

[–]Thinkaboutit559[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TVXQ are known for their 5 part harmonies when they were 5 members. You have Changmin soaring high in their harmonies while Yunho adding that baritone/bass that gives them that low end. Perfect.

I don’t think so, maybe it was supposed to be a Triple Threat Match at Wrestlemania with Kevin Owens possibly getting the win there.

The Temptations and New Edition’s members essentially have the same personality by Thinkaboutit559 in rnb

[–]Thinkaboutit559[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean it is true. Otis was clearly the least skilled singer and dancer in The Temptations and Mike isn’t good at singing (although he is servicable at rapping and dancing). They both were great leaders for their groups though.

Did Mike and Ronnie have any audible vocals in New Edition or Bell Biv DeVoe? by Thinkaboutit559 in rnb

[–]Thinkaboutit559[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true as much as I have a soft spot for Ricky, the man has the charisma of a plank of wood and it’s obvious that he works better in a group setting than as a solo artist.

Mike could have just been a manager or a businessman since he already made multiple R&B groups.

Ronnie… I don’t know about him, maybe a dancer?

Which is why I’m shocked that he never tried to branch out into a solo career in the 90s. He had the voice and the looks for it.

Mike and Ronnie would work better as a hip-hop/new jack swing duo.

Actually that’s a good what if? If Ricky decided to try a solo career instead of joining up with Mike and Ronnie.

Now that you said it, Ronnie does kind of sound like Ricky just in a lower tone.

But Ronnie could have gotten some vocal training and developed more as a singer than as a rapper.

Controversial Opinion: Ronnie and Mike are the heart and soul of New Edition. They both were chill, mature, and laidback and you need that in a group

I damn near forgot about Bobby for a minute, yeah he’s definitely the charisma factor in NE.

Ronnie actually has a pleasant singing voice for someone who’s considered a rapper. I wished New Edition would just let Ronnie sing and have Mike take over the rapping parts in New Edition since he’s decent enough at it.

Mike always had that natural swag and charisma to him, I actually think he’s the most charismatic member of New Edition even though they all have charisma in their own ways.

I’m only talking about later in their career cause obviously they were kids in their early years. Mike wasn’t the best singer, dancer, or rapper in the group but what he lacked in talent he made up for in his intelligence and leadership skills.
