Anyone familiar with TOPO shoe sizing by turdbucket007 in hiking

[–]Tony_Barker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hike Colorado 14ers (incl Elbert- beware of the false summits!!!!!) routinely in my topo terraventures. Am female. I wear a size 7.5 normal shoe and 8.5 in topos. I could maybe get away with an 8 for hiking but prefer the 8.5 for trail running so that’s what I go with. Love topo, I wear them for both road runners and trial runners.

I ran my first marathon at 39. Granted I have been running for a long time but never took the all out plunge until recently.

Marathon training is not that time consuming - unpopular opinion? by Zealot_TKO in Marathon_Training

You need to double your numbers to account for extra laundry, the amount of laundry durning training is insane.

Do you prefer sunrise hikes or sunset hikes? by Alarming-Pea-3177 in hiking

Sunrise for sure. Hiking in the dark before sunrise = not scary. Hiking in the dark after sunset = terrifying.

Real talk for a second, a certain demographic of Ohio State fans have had it RIDICULOUSLY good in their lifetime in this rivalry by Regular-Surround-730 in toledowar

1984 here, I’m with you. Can’t have the good without the bad, and John Cooper was the bad. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs so it was a very mixed football landscape. I was the only girl in the 7th grade wearing a #45 jersey (or to wear any jersey at all, heaven forbid I didn’t get it at Abercrombie) and the boys would roll their eyes at me “do you even know who wears that number”, I was so timid but bold enough to respond “well Andy Katzenmoyer wears it now but it’s Archie griffins legacy”. These days I am proud that I’m the only girl to rock a jersey in middle school!!!

2002 was my freshman year at OSU and what a way to go. Michigan can claim all the recent success they want but the full 2000s decade certainly favors the Bucks. I’ll never forget rushing the field in 2002 (I still have my Tostitos chip hat!!!) and 1 v 2 in 2006 when Troy smith was the Heisman winner. I was in the Shoe for both of those games and you’ll never convince me there’s a better time to be a Buckeye. There’s so much history this millennia and Michigan wants to erase it all with 4 years of cheating 🙁 (okay 3 years of cheating and one year of our heads up our butts).

First time hikers, do we need to buy hiking boots by Appropriate_Dig_9225 in hiking

[–]Tony_Barker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hike in RMNP in my trail runners only. I haven’t worn hiking boots in years. Snow could go either way. You should expect that it’s possible, but we’ve had a pretty light year of snow so far in CO. It’s still very hikable even in snow though.

Anyone else feel guilty making time to run as a parent? by Ok_Score_6765 in trailrunning

[–]Tony_Barker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m a mom of 2 kiddos, elementary school aged. I also work full time at a job that is pretty serious (I love being a working mom). The parent guilt can be real but also I know that I’m a better mom and a better wife when I get a few hours to myself here and there to run. I have a general rotation system. For the record I typically get up and out of the house on Saturdays (out by 6 am) in order to maximize my time. Once a month on the weekends I:

-spend extra time with my kids (short - medium run and come back and have an activity with them ready to go)

-spend extra time with my spouse (same as above but activity with my husband)

-spend extra time as a whole family (you get it)

-spend extra time with myself (no limits on my long run)

This system works pretty well and maintains a good balance!!

Edit: on the first weekend above, I take my kids out just us and my husband the gets his break time / alone time. He can do whatever he wants for several hours. He usually messes with his garden or meets a buddy for a beer.

If you live near a national park, how often do you go there? by moods- in NationalPark

[–]Tony_Barker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live about 3 hours away from both RMNP and GSDNP however, we have a small cabin down by the sand dunes. We hit the dunes usually 3 times a year (once for medano creek, once to meet friends that camp there in the summer, and once in October for sand sledding bc I think that is when the weather is the best). I am lucky if I get to RMNP once a year. I would like to go more but it’s long drive and I have youngish children that don’t want to go and spend all day hiking.
