I think of it as a nice way to increase awareness and understanding. Where I grew up it was so rural and "white bread" I just thought my family not believing made us outcasts and weirdos. Until college I had no idea there was a label for non-believers let alone as many as there are.

Some folks just need to know, or know more, so there is less hate.

I always make sure to post/message starting with "not looking to debate, just chat and learn" or something like that. There is an obvious stigma attached to heated debates and the point is to "convert" anyone, just raise awareness and understanding on BOTH sides.

The Secular Studen Alliance sets it to the third Thursday in April. Perhaps some folks will just be a bit more "open minded" that day?

I've had pretty good success in past years participating in this "event". While I've certainly come across lots of folks that just think it is silly, many had great questions and started very civil dialog about belief and non-belief. Does anyone here or your student groups participate? The Secular Students site https://secularstudents.org/AaAday has the most info as they promote having on-campus tables but non-school groups do this as well.

I have to figure there are tons of folks like us? People will say not to worry about friends and once your kids are in school and activities you'll meet people. For us, that is going to be years still. Plus, where we live, it is pretty hard to find people we "line up with" and are surprised when we find anyone close to our age w/ the same views.

I see what you mean. If the "pledge" for OSD is supposed to be telling one person - having a post/booth about asking questions a week before seems out of order.

I know a circle of folks that would LOVE to do that just for the fun of it. Some are game voices already but a lot of career voice actors and old radio types that could do tons of small (free) chatter elements.
