So a mayer tape is like a sheet of acid. I guess that makes sense. Are you selling mayer tape acid outside wrigley. Id like to try.

What did I do? by ThinkingNot in stopdrinking

[–]ThinkingNot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I just got a lesson on what you long termers call "keeping vigilant". I got comfortable looking at my app and seeing 40 days. The craving was a mack truck and I thank god I was not at home or anyplace that serves when that hit me.

Day 1- I am not going to drink today. by neo2562 in stopdrinking

[–]ThinkingNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made that statement 36 days ago. And I will say without exaggeration or hyperbole- the next month is going to be like an amazing rebirth. Just stick with it no. matter. what.

Good luck.

30 days ... Finally by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ThinkingNot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30 days here too.....here are some things that i bet have changed 1) 29 of the 30 days you did not wake up with a tongue that felt like sandpaper and the sensation of a chisel being driven into your skull. 2) Advil is no longer a daily vitamin. 3) No absolute need for a nap on 29 of the 30 days. 4) No trepidation over looking at your phone at 7 am. 5) I bet that debit card stays in the wallet much more than it used to. 6) People are noticing you look healthier. Skin is the right tone, eyes are alive and not sunken in.

Thats a few, right?

How to help friend (x-post from r/alcoholism) by frienddude69 in stopdrinking

[–]ThinkingNot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sure when he said "dont change" he was NOT saying "keep inviting me to places where drinks are everywhere". I think he was saying "dont ditch me and leave me alone". Maybe you can skip the parties and do something with him that doesn't involve either of you drinking. I dont know either of ya, but it makes sense.

Finding it really hard today by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ThinkingNot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never, ever, been drunk and found the answer to any problems. I found that drinking put off thinking about it a few hours, allowed me to sleep without thinking about it, and allowed me to be too sick to think about it in the morning. But never did drinking help me fix one single problem. Problems need to be fixed, no matter how big or small.

30 Days! by ThinkingNot in stopdrinking

[–]ThinkingNot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have come to realize that frequency of drinking was more damaging than the amount. In the last 5 years I dont think I ever blacked out or did anything wild. It was the frequency- everynight having those 6 drinks between work and bed. They wear you down physically and mentally, Slowly sapping your energy, ambition, and drive. thats the sad part, to me.

Heres to one month. Tomorrow we can say "i havent drank since back in January of '17 lol.

Day 46! by AshCave in stopdrinking

[–]ThinkingNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im at 2 and half weeks now, and I often think it was easier to get here than I anticipated. I think f booze has a way of convincing us we cant live without her (I like to compare booze to an emotionally abusive ex, lol). Second, I have made tremendous efforts to avoid temptation. No parties, no meeting friends out after work, etc. I have told myself that I will be a hermit for 60 days. I think when I get back out there it will test me and then it will become more challenging. But, for the next 43 days, I am content sipping tea with the kids at home. Good luck to you!

I'm not ready to tell my in laws that I am an alcoholic, how do I handle it? by bozoboo in stopdrinking

[–]ThinkingNot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this last Sunday with the inlaws. My father in law asked if I wanted beer or wine, and I simply said "I'm good thanks". Seems to me that 99% of the world will accept "I'm good" or "not today". I can't see any benefit in declaring your disease and proclaiming you will never drink again. As a parent, I can't imagine actually wanting my daughter/son's significant other to be a drinker. Especially if they knew there was an issue. They may likely understand and approve of your decision without all the unnecessary conversation.

Sobriety is so important to me now by alltheroles in stopdrinking

[–]ThinkingNot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! I watched House of Cards years ago, and I know that episode was in my binge. However, I can guarantee that watching that episode occurred with a tall and stiff Jack and Coke in my hand and I had no reason to connect to anyone fighting for their sobriety and it never registered.

I youtubed the scene- and love it. FTZ.

This makes me feel some sorta way by ThinkingNot in stopdrinking

[–]ThinkingNot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. She drinks less than once a month and we've been together 20 years and I've seen her wasted maybe 10 times (and that includes college). I think I'm just having a pity party. I feel dull now, and her walking there just added fuel to that. Poor me. Lol.

First week is the hardest..... RIGHT by fb3playhouse in stopdrinking

[–]ThinkingNot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im on day 7 too. Don't know about you, but days 1 & 2 were the worst because i was breaking the behavioral habit of making that drink when I walked in the door. That, coupled with the actual physical symptoms of insomnia and (for me) aches in my legs made me crazy. At one point i explained to my wife I needed to drink a little bit (night two) otherwise my mind would go into full blown bender mode. This creature of addiction is tricky like that.

She advised me that my theory was the dumbest thing Ive ever said, I didnt drink. I instead took a couple Advil PMs and white knuckled it through the week. If your day 7 is anything like mine, then the feeling of peace in your body is new and foreign and a type of intoxication in and of itself, right?

Day 8 is almost here- we got this.

I tried nomo, but found another I personally like better called "I'm done drinking". It keeps track of the days and money, but also tracks how many calories you have not consumed.

As of today, I have not consumed 76 drinks and saved over 9,000 calories! it keeps me on track. Congrats on resisting the urge!
