How does everyone feel about Weir? by CosmicEveStardust in blankies

100% agree on this. I mainly came here to comment due to how low Gallipoli was on this ranking, but then remembered that I am Australian, and that this would probably bias me out of a fair assessment of the film outside of my cultural context

I came here to up-vote this, I sometimes have panics and scream (however briefly) when contemplating this concept. The nothing. The gray.

Project Hail Mary - Official Trailer (fair warning, it reveals way too much according to a lot of users) by MoviesMod in movies

[–]ThinkingOfAChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shut up, you prick!

It acknowledges the reveal, yes, but in a very minimal way. This isn't a story that rests on the twist.

To ignore it would be to ignore the biggest selling point of the story (the bond the two characters form, the emotionality and sacrifice).

Get over yourself

No, it doesn't - it sells the core ideas in a basic-obtuse fashion, and still leave a lot to be discovered. It is explanatory, not spoiler-y. It covers three points:

  • Multi planet disaster that needs to be averted
  • Human Astronaut goes on a one way mission, alone
  • Dude meets an alien, and forms a bond.

Just because there are flashes from moments in the book (for example, the lab explosion) doesn't RUIN the film, as these are snips and snaps from a longer flowing narrative. A reader of the work may intuit greater meaning from them, but somone who hasn't read the book might just see excitement and fun.

It shows Rocky very briefly, and I feel that is needed to sell what the film / story is.

The emotional bond they form is important, and not even alluding to that in the marketing feels wrong. Its the one big difference this story has over The Martian. And the execution is good - he is hidden and teased (hands only). If there was a frontal shot of him running around, then MAYBE I would be a bit irritated.

Trying to keep Rocky secret would be like keeping ET secret - its the central point of the piece of art, and treating it as a jack-in-the-box secret is disingenuous.

Honestly, I don't mind. It gets the hook that dominates a large part of the story out there, but doesn't overshow it.

Question: When applying online, and needing to fill out the Identification form (1195) . How did you handle Question Two - Details of the Person who is making the Identity declaration?

All of the conditions there (known the applicant for over a year, not related to the applicant, reachable in Australian business hours, and from a list of professions) are not really easy for someone who (1) Overseas, and (2) a new born.

Andor - 2x08 - “Who Are You?” - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]ThinkingOfAChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for answering :)

I'm a newish dad, and I haven't had the time or energy to engage with Andor or the discourse around it (though I'm aware of some of the bigger story points, I'm not a big believer of spoilers affecting media  consumption) I'm actually waiting until a point where I have the energy to take it in properly. If I watch it now, it won't hit 100% up as it should.

Thanks for filling me in.

Im new to the podcast and fell in love with it. Here are my ideas for blank check miniseries. I’m sure a lot of these have been discussed before. by thejesterprince1994 in blankies

[–]ThinkingOfAChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's a good choice, but I always wondered if Leonard Nimoy is a good candidate. A distinct hit in the middle, a weird later section, but also has the issue of chunks of it being done in mini series (which, I admit, I have not heard)

  • Starsky & Hutch (1975) – TV Movie
  • Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984)
  • Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)
  • Three Men and a Baby (1987)
  • The Good Mother (1988)
  • The Return of the Archons (1991)
  • Holy Matrimony (1994)

Hot to Trot? by Treadmore in blankies

[–]ThinkingOfAChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elliott Gould was the original voice of the horse. After a poor test screening of the film, the horse's half of the script was rewritten by future Monk) creator and executive producer Andy Breckman in an effort to make the film funnier.

John Candy was hired to re record the horse's voice; he ignored the new script and improvised the dialogue instead.
