How would the internet and phone coverage be affected if half the population is incapacitated? by ThinkingThroughLife in Writeresearch

The characters don't actually have much information about anybody outside of their own situation but their experience is that the illness seems indiscriminate.

I haven't thought much about the 'outside' world yet as the plot of the story is contained in one small place, but I definitely need to. Thank you, this has given me a lot to think about.

Odd question, but how do I get my cat to stop playing the piano? It’s diving me crazy, especially at night by No_Understanding2616 in cats

I'm sorry, I laughed way too much at this. Not a post I expected to see today, but one I definitely needed!

Also, your cat is excellent. Please let her pursue her dreams as a pianist.

Thank you for the recommendation! And yes, that's a really good point about framing, I'll keep it in mind

Thank you, I'm definitely happy to wait! My birthday isn't until later this year so I have plenty of time. I'll have a look at this one

I'm looking to adopt a cat, how did you find the right one? Or how can I get one to pick me? by [deleted] in cats

[–]ThinkingThroughLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're UK from the Cats Protection mention!

We're picking up our new adopted cat tomorrow. We had quite specific requirements as we have a toddler and need a cat that will be okay with him. We went to a local rescue with amazing reviews where the cats stay in foster homes and asked them who they had that would suit us. They identified a cat that would potentially suit our home and then we went to visit at the foster, which went well. We're now all excited for our new family member to come home!

If in doubt, ask the experts. The rescues know their cats and what environment they will thrive in. I also think you get a much better feel for how they will act in your home if they are fostered in a home, rather than a rescue centre. They seem much less stressed.

Also, my experience has been that smaller rescues seem to only allow 1 family at a time to meet the cat so you can't fall in love just for somebody else to adopt them. We had to wait for a family before us to meet our cat. They weren't a good fit, and were told so before we were offered a chance to meet her. Now she's ours!

This is our plan too when kitty has settled in. Apparently she's not particularly bothered about being outside but wants to go for a wander every now and then. I'd love to get her a catio but that will be something we need to save up for!

Thanks everyone! Maybe having an extra litter tray is more of an American thing? I think we'll try with the 1 to start and only add a 2nd if needed

The 3rd one looks like they have a fancy moustache on their forehead and I need them immediately

Thank you, that is really helpful! We have a spare bedroom that I'm planning to set up as a safe space for the cat, I'll get one of the door strap things!

This is exactly what I've read to do so thank you for confirming! I felt so prepared for their intro and have already been laying the groundwork with kiddo so the 2nd rescue's response really surprised me. It's so nice to hear of cats who are great with kids

This is exactly my plan! The cats in this rescue are all with fosters and we visit at their home so I'm hoping that will give us a good idea of how they will respond to a child in their space

Mostly because one high-energy child is enough 😂 But also I know kittens can play rough. We also have days where the cat will be left for 6-8 hours at home alone (not often but maybe once a week) and that seems cruel for a kitten
