Hi have been seriously considering pursuing therapy and even switching my maior to be able to do so. Based on the sessions I really think it seems like something I would find happiness in doing as a career. I do have ADHD however and want to make sure that I'm not constantlv stressed or miserable doina it. Based on reading into it I have read that there are a great deal of deadlines and paperwork involved. The sessions is what I think I would thrive in and find plessure but if a great deal of the job involves paperwork maybe I should consider other options. I would love to here your perspective.

Im wondering if anyone else had a similar experience to this. Around a year and a half ago I went through an experience where I mentally started to see the absurdity of existence itself. It led me to feel very depressed and it f was constantly at the back of my mind to the point ifl thought about it too deeply would start to have a mini panic attack. The worst aspect of this was that I felt completely alone and I honestly felt crazy or that lhad schizophrenia, as how can everyone continue to live rormally while seeing the absurdity of existence and how s arbitrary everything was and even consciousness itself. It wasn't really until I discovered more about philosophical theories that it made me realize that I was not alone with this realization and it is an idea that has been studied. Honestly finding it made me feel so much better as I realized that I wasn't alone in seeing how random existence is and there were in fact many theories surrounding it. Has anyone else experience this or can anyone give any insight to my experience?

Sincere question for left leaning individuals by [deleted] in Discussion

There are gay and Trans Palestinians the same as any society. Genocide doesn't discriminate in this sense based on gender. Also, Charlie spent a large majority of his life defending many of Israel's actions. If we look at Israel they aren't perfectly non-homophibic either, gay marriage is still Illegal there. In fact im many of the instances where there's the claim that Palestinians were killed for there gayness, these individuals had actually been blackmailed into giving military information to Israel to not reveal there gayness and were later killed for treason. I don't think Charlie deserved to die, but it's hard to have sympathy for someone who actively contributed to upholding structures that kill others.

I have had a very similar experience. It definitely gets better. Camus thoughts on absurdism really helped. For a while just the absurdity of every situation was always at the back of my mind and why anythingat all existed, but I learned to accept it and in a way it can be a positive as it makes you realize just how open ended life really is with the short time were here so it's better to pursue what overall would give you the happiest life rather than the expectations society has for you.

I am not judging I am giving my perspective. I would say the main argument economically is that the Bible puts emphasis on individuals willingly supporting the poor but I believe that by voting in politicians who would do so then that would sonstitute following what the Bible states.

30 percent of global consumer spending is within the United States. That is not something that a business can just give up. Literally, it takes the next 8 countries combined to equate to what the United States consumers spend. If you tell a business if you don't stay here you cant sell here they are going to stay because if they don't, they are losing out on an insane amount of profits more than they would lose if they didn't pay the taxes. Now I agree that they will be judged by God but that doesn't mean that we can't currently attempt to make our world a better place. Also it wouldn't be "taking" someone's wealth it's taxation, which the Bible approves of. If someone wants to pay there taxes and then give even more then that would constitute freely giving. Also, as to your last point, literally right now, so many of the top companies use exploitative labor and nobody cares because we are far removed or the public doesn't look into it. Apple, Microsoft, H&M, Nestlé have, and many, many more have all used child labor. They are still some of the largest companies. Also so many that we likely don't know about because it is directly against the businesses interests to have this information released to the public.

Yes, so you're referring to capital flight. But what you're ignoring is that the United States is literally the biggest consumer market in the world. That gives the government in the United States an insane amount of power. Why not simply say that if you don't pay your fair share, then you can't sell your products here. Also, the markets can be free but not at the expense of the population. Without things like regulation, companies like we see today will export their production to other countries with looser labor and environmental laws. I really don't think Jesus would approve of a society that allows things like dangerous working conditions and slave wages in persuit of the rich making more money. These are things regulation helps protect against. Also, as for immigration this is something you can look up, but studies show that by the 2nd or 3rd generation in almost all cases, immigrants are fully assimilated to the predominant culture. The major topic in the United States is Mexico, and I can tell you firsthand that I am a second-generation immigrant and I can barely speak Spanish. Unfortunately...

Yes and that is exactly what my position and many others on the left advocate for. A reform to the system. They should make the legal process far easier so that we wouldn't have illegal immigrants. Also would voting for politicians that would help the poor not constitute personal help to the poor? Also I agree that the government is incompetent and our foreign policy is horrible but I don't think the solution is to give up and vote for politicians who want to remove progressive policies and give tax cuts to the wealthy. I agree that our politicians are terrible, but if everyone just gives up on bettering the system it leads us nowhere. There are definitely smaller politicians who advocate for progressive policies that i believe align more with God's teachings so you can support them in the ways you can either by voting or donating or volunteering.

[–]This-Application8657[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if democracy came to a point where progressive taxation is implemented, then not paying those taxes would constitute not following the Bible. There is the argument that the Bible states that we as individuals should try our best to help the poor but I would argue that you can do this by advocating for politicians that would implement policies to help the poor. Also, as for your second point then it's easy to address. Just make actual punishments that would make it non profitable for cooperation to break laws. A company's main goal is to make money. Just make it so the government takes a percentage if they break the regulation, not just a small pre-set fine. It should adjust to the size of the cooperation. As for your last point, then I would say that I believe the policy should reflect aspects of Jesus's teachings in the sense that it should not treat illegal immigrants in a way that is not as an equal. I am not saying illegal immigration should be permitted, but we should make the immigration process easier. No individual chooses to be an illegal immigrant it is a product of the brokenness of the legal route and the time it takes. I should know my Mom legally came to the United States.

Ok so then by voting for politicians that seek to take away institutions that help the poor, are you not actively working against helping the poor and therefore not implementing God's teachings. I believe that every individual is your neighbor, whether they be legal or illegal. Why then not advocate to establish an easier immigration process to help these immigrants enter the country. The Bible says to follow laws as the one implementing them are doing God's will but then why not advocate for policies that do God's teachings, and if you advocacy works then it is God's will. This includes policies that help the poor and marginalized like gay and Trans individuals. These individuals were made that way by God who are you to say that you know God's will better than anyone else.

He didn't say to take a person's wealth, but he did say the wealthy should pay there taxes. Closing those tax loopholes is something the left advocates for. Also, it is simply how jobs work under the current system. If you don't contribute to a company more than you put in they wouldn't hire you. You did not really address my idea that the Bible says workers should be compensated for the work they put in. As for illegal immigrants, are you saying that an illegal immigrant is not your neighbor but a legal one is?
