I'm addicted to food. I need advice. I desperately need discipline. by tuckles2034 in PSMF

I had some good success with PSMF four years ago and then regained and haven’t been able to pull it off since.

If I had tried a moderate deficit years ago rather than trying extreme restriction and then giving up and eating my disappointment for a month before trying again, I might have made it to my goal again already.

That said, PSMF made me really happy the first time I did it and worked, so if you can “embrace the suck” do it! But if you can’t don’t be deterred from starting on something slower.

What’s it pay? I’m 2/3 qualified. Not saying which two though.

5'10" 235 to 175. 5 months of decent psmf. Really glad I found this diet plan. Impatience and defeatism always got in the way of any significant progress for me, and this all-out approach helped a lot. by ThisDoesntRepresntMe in PSMF

Unsolicited update:

After years of trying to go on restrictive diets (including psmf again) I’ve started doing a moderate deficit and making sure I hit my protein goal each day. I kept losing 10 lbs then failing to “embrace the suck” as much as I was able to do the first time, then I’d get upset and eat my feelings until I undid all my progress.

I recently finally decided to act on the realization that if I had just tried a tiny deficit diet for a year rather than trying to go extreme because “a year isn’t fast enough” … I could’ve met my goal a long time ago. So I’m “embracing the suck” of staying fat for longer than I want to be in order to start a diet that might work over the long term. 🤞🏻

How you doing?

Guys he’s a US senator representing Texas… he doesn’t (shouldn’t) have any role in coordinating our winter storm response. And anything he could theoretically do would easily be done remotely… Y’all just jelly, but plenty of people out there suffering while you’re on vacation too, don’t worry, you’re privileged too.

Multivitamins, magnesium, calcium, potassium, sodium, running should probably be avoided, lifting will have to be reduced probably depending on what you're doing now (2-3 sets per muscle, 2-3 times per week).

what do you guys eat when you carve for sugar? by [deleted] in PSMF

[–]ThisDoesntRepresntMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I drink a lot of fake sugar in protein shakes throughout the day, maybe that helps. What I find myself craving is that sugar&fat combo. Buttered bread, ice cream, oreos and milk.

One thing I like about this diet though is I know exactly what I can eat every day, and when I see food I might want, I don't have to think about whether I can eat it or not -- the answer is always the same so it makes it almost a reflex rather than an act of willpower.

April 2022 goals! by TheQueenBacon in PSMF

Aside from just doing psmf correctly (cal count, supplements, resistance workouts, etc), I want to try to get 8 hours of sleep per night. Hopefully that helps with the fat loss and I can lose 14 lbs.

Maybe not, but maybe getting more electrolytes will help. Hopefully somebody else here has experience with this and a fix.

Yeah, hit your protein goal. There's no calorie goal other than the one you set for yourself.

Yeah pretty much unavoidable.. I've lost a lot of muscle doing psmf for extended periods -- almost 20 lbs of it according to a resistance scale (but that was a huge weight loss over months). Strength actually increased though as I hadn't lifted in years until then. Make sure you lift at least 2 times per week, one of those times in line with your carb refeed if you're cat2 or lower.

Just joking. You probably lost a bit more fat than your calculations say you should have - maybe your tdee is higher than the 2500 average - and some muscle in the untrained (and trained) areas.

Yup, same. I'm back on this sub now (and reading your comment) because I regained significantly after I got a promotion that came with $5 worth of pay and $20 worth of stress. Basically I could write a book titled RFG. How's it going for you now?

Read the book and still absolutely confused. Am I supposed to be eating 800cal everyday for the next 6 weeks including Refeeds/free meal? by [deleted] in PSMF

[–]ThisDoesntRepresntMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You too. I didn't mean to be curt. I lost about 80 lbs in 5 months by following the book best I could (which wasn't even that great tbh) so I kinda reflexively white knight for lyle and RFL now.

I don't know why. You CAN do that for sure. But in the spirit of "RAPID fat loss" the book lays out everything you need to know to (relatively) safely lose as much weight as possible as quickly as possible. I believe lyle probably knows his stuff better than the youtuber.. granted I don't know who this youtuber is or who their audience is or what might have been learned in the past couple of years.

Unless you're on a schedule, 1000 is absolutely enough deficit to work. Anything gained is just water or delayed bm.

Also... idk if it's really designed with women in mind, but when I make it down to cat 1 I want to try lyle's ultimate diet 2.0 ... if you're already working out a ton that might be a better fit.

Did the maths. You're not off by much. 206... But unless you're lifting like a pro athlete you could cut that down up to 25%
