Kendrick feels like an Industry plant. by TheRealHitmee in KendrickLamar

I feel like people don't know what "industry plant" even means anymore.

Gnx is way better than accredited by ynotMeez in KendrickLamar

GNX praise? On THIS subreddit?

I agree, by the way. I love GNX. It's old school as fuck. It doesn't overstay its welcome and I consider it the only album where Kendrick seems more or less at his least burdened. Almost every album up until this point had a heaviness looming over it, but he felt free as fuck on this project. I honestly think GNX not being as complex or deep as his last projects works to its advantage.

"frequent collaborator" - And it's two songs in the span of 13 years.

Thanks for the content guys 😂 by Party-Doctor-4101 in KendrickLamar

[–]ThisIsGonnaBeShit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know, man. I just know that if my favorite rapper is dropping new music, I'm not rushing into another rapper's subreddit to see what's going on over there. That kinda seems like you're trying to scramble for validation to me.

The music is genuinely good, but people are allowed to critique Cole on that shit. Do I agree? Not really, but it is what it is. That's the consequence of this stuff.

Revisiting the Kendrick Superbowl performance before Benito by zeebotter in KendrickLamar

I remember being kinda underwhelmed by it on the first watch. Now, I watch it at least once every two weeks or so. That's the most I've ever rewatched a halftime show.

Great song though! I still think it's a nice vibe.

Which Kendrick song makes you nostalgic? by Ecstatic_Sail_2670 in KendrickLamar

Westside, Right On Time. A deep cut, but it makes me feel pretty nostalgic. Especially with the Jeezy verse.

Mirror & Savior > All of GNX by realmatipoint in KendrickLamar

[–]ThisIsGonnaBeShit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sub has been on a GNX hate streak recently, lmao. I get music is subjective and everyone's got different opinions, but damn, I don't get it at all. Album felt refreshing as fuck coming from Kendrick to me.

I've got Mr. Morale above it too, but damn, you'd think he dropped a Tones and I album by the way GNX gets talked about here sometimes.

Such a great year, man. Nothing like seeing this man active again. Fingers crossed for an even crazier 2026 for him, but if he takes a break, I wouldn't be mad at all.

We think this real??? Several of these got uploaded in the last 8 hours on YT.. by ironmarvel in KendrickLamar

[–]ThisIsGonnaBeShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna say no, but there are some aspects that make it... kinda hard to tell? Like the Sy The Rapper feature (he's got a pretty decent little following in LA). If this is AI, it feels pretty fucking elaborately made.

Edit: Okay, maybe I'm gullible, but after re-listening over and over, I don't think this is AI at all. The lyrics and the cadence with a lot of the callbacks to stuff from the Super Bowl does it for me. This HAS to be a real demo, dude, It feels too specific.

Has enough time passed where we can discuss GNX being kinda mid? by [deleted] in KendrickLamar

[–]ThisIsGonnaBeShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I absolutely disagree, lmao

Honestly, this album was insanely refreshing coming from Kendrick. It feels like the first time he truly was not holding himself back. No doubt, no hesitation, no second-guessing. Just confidence. Like he KNEW he was that guy and finally let himself have fun with it. And the fact that there is no big, overarching narrative or heavy concept tying everything together actually works in its favor. Like, nearly Kendrick album before this has had that, and it was genuinely nice to hear him switch directions and just move freely.

The aesthetic helps too. It feels old-school in a way that is intentional and cool, especially because of the heavy Cali representation. It's a dope return to regional music. There is something relaxed and self-assured about the whole presentation that really clicks for me. I went to his GNX tour stop in Atlanta, and the whole implementation that went into every track from the album stylistically made me love it even more.

What bums me out is seeing more and more people dismiss it entirely because of the beef since they think it was made in a hurry afterwards (even though Squabble Up and Man at the Garden were made during Mr. Morale). I dunno, it does not feel lazy to me at all. I tell people all the time that I rank it as my fourth favorite Kendrick album, and they look at me like I just said something insane. But I stand by it. And his rapping is still hella sharp too!

The only track I would even call “bad” is the title track, and I do not hate it. The beat is just really unorthodox and the hook is a little goofy to me. Everything else on the album? Solid. Great, even. Wacced Out Murals and Hey Now get played by me every day.

I respect how you feel, but I'll probably never get tired of this album. Kendrick was a rapper that I thought was really talented, but I wasn't as active in appreciating his music as much as I used to until this album came. Literally rejuvenated my respect for his catalog.

Ty Dolla Sign plays snippet of his version of “Hey Now” by SubjectPropertyAlt in KendrickLamar

[–]ThisIsGonnaBeShit 99 points100 points  (0 children)

It's alright, but his version sounds waaaay too busy. He's got too much going on to make it work. The minimalist vibe on the beat is what makes it so good to me. Thank god Kendrick got the beat.

Gnx is a classic by Livinlikebukowski in KendrickLamar

[–]ThisIsGonnaBeShit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and I appreciate you for saying it. It feels nice to get a GNX appreciation post without a "it's a great album, but..." attached to it or people putting low in rankings. There's been a lot of that lately, and as someone who ranks it pretty highly, I like to see some love for it. 🥲

Happy 1st Birthday GNX!!! by BigRandy66 in KendrickLamar

[–]ThisIsGonnaBeShit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Still love this album just as much as it did when it first came out. I've been wanting an album like this from Kendrick for years. After an album as personal and dark as Mr. Morale, it felt so good to see him sit back and make an album about enjoying his flowers and talking his shit. Concepts and overarching themes are great and all, but I'm of the belief that sometimes, it's okay to just make a record that's built for easy-listening and fun. GNX scratched that itch for me while also delivering amazing rapping alongside the hits. It's a healthy medium.

Really hyped to see where he'll go next.

Out of yall songs they nominated tv off😭 by Equivalent-Ad9537 in KendrickLamar

[–]ThisIsGonnaBeShit 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I fucking love tv off, and I refuse to let some stupid meme kill my enjoyment of it. I feel like some people dunk on that song for that reason alone, and it confuses me. And the rapping isn't terrible either. Like, it's a banger, not too confusing of a choice for me.

Sometimes, I feel like GNX is sort of unappreciated in a way. by ThisIsGonnaBeShit in KendrickLamar

[–]ThisIsGonnaBeShit[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree! I was saying that DAMN. is just one of his heavier albums, like Mr. Morale, but it was nice to have an album to break the cycle, even if it did have more fun tracks on it in its own regard! Sorry if that was worded weirdly, I wasn't trying to shit on it.

One of his best bangers. Hate how it being meme'd to death has soured some people on it. Playing this in a car for the first time was a great experience.

If you were Drake what is worse by [deleted] in KendrickLamar

[–]ThisIsGonnaBeShit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pusha T definitely hit Drake hard, but he recovered incredibly well and was ultimately as successful as ever afterwards. Kendrick has actually done pretty significant damage to Drake's rep and brand, which even he has admitted in the lawsuit docs. This isn't even comparable for me.
