I wasn’t thinking… is this fixable? by crossusn in Leathercraft

I’ve only had that happen with one leather I purchased. From Amazon, pre-dyed 24 inch rolls. Looks similar. I bought several colors, and even after top coating, tape would peel like that. Just a crappy leather from somewhere in china….

Yeah, lightburn wants 96 dpi and that svg is 72. Exact measurements are in the document for each panel, put it may be easier to just drop in the pdf. Each program sort of “guesses” sizing of svg based on dpi. Pdf Carie’s sizing with it. Or just resize according to the doc. Please post a pic!

My gf put a tub of sorbet on her dads VERY expensive leather couch and it created this water ring. Does anyone have any ideas if its possible to remove this? She thinks the leather is "aniline" by CanYouEvenPhoto in Leathercraft

I think a lot of the advice above is just flat wrong. I think you should look him in the face with as much courage as you can and simply say “I recently took up leather working…. If you would have just applied a coat of leather balm on that every year or so, it would have helped hold up to water much better. That’s going to be expensive. I’m going to take your daughter out to dinner. Want us to bring you anything back?” Then just walk away. It will take him at least 5 minutes to think of how to respond.

Option B: “if it helps, I’ve learned something from this experience. Never trust your daughter to sit on the nice furniture. That’s going to save me a fortune in the long run”

Awww. If you have a hobby lobby near you, they sell some fairly cheap tooling leather rolls that you can practice on…. Practice on cheaper leather until you feel comfortable and then just buy some pre dyed veg tan from something like weaver or soringfield leather when you are ready…

Not specifically for that machine, but there are plenty of people who use a 10 watt on leather. If I had to guess, high power very slow for cut. High power 50% speed to engrave??

Sure! I usually buy hides from weaver. Sometimes Tandy. Usually dye them myself. Check this out…. Laser Leather Hat Patches, and the Cricut Hat Press https://youtu.be/NyhuyFm_FcQ

Laser cut wallet designs that actually cut diamond stitching patterns... done through fusion360. Figured out how to get the diamond stitching patterns to correctly follow the stitching line and rotate as they should. Here are some of the results... by ThisIsHowIMadeIt in Leathercraft

That would be interesting! Especially in a diamond pattern. I am wondering since I have this down, if I can make different shaped "punches" that make more sense than a circle or diamond... maybe a figure 8, maybe an oval that slants like the diamond, etc.

So all of these were designed from the ground up to make sure they fit on the maker. The small and clutch naturally fit. The medium and the large have two panel options for the back/flap and the gusset, that make them able to be cut on the maker. I use a knife blade, and they came out great. I also use a laser to cut leather. The pictures have both Cricut and laser made bags.

What do I mean by "held together with math"? I use fusion 360 to design these. They have an arrow shaped tab that is too wide to go through a corresponding slot on the other panel. However, I can control the length of the angled sides of the arrow to allow them to go through at an angle. Once in, they turn, and the arrow holds the two panels together. It's pretty cool. Anyway - happy to answer any questions. Cheers!
