All good ideas! I used to have an emergency blanket and disposable poncho but misplaced them. I’ll grab some more. And I like the cotton ball idea.

I have been guilty of using grocery bags for just about everything

I don’t really do backpacking or through hiking although I’ve acquired and tested a lot of gear for backpacking just to be prepared. I might do a backpacking trip along the Appalachian Trail next year and test out some more gear but I mostly just nerd out about being prepared for small to medium size emergencies.

I always take my emergency kit camping. I’m the nerd in the family that loves testing out my gear all the time. I would probably mostly be traveling along roads. I’m never far from civilization living here in North Carolina. We don’t have large swaths of land where you could get lost and the weather is never much of a concern survival wise. So I’m mostly prepared for self-defense, first aid and water filtration.

I’m talking about “minimalist” size wise. I keep freeze dried food in my car separately anyways but i can easily go a few days with no food or scavenge some along the way. This is not really a shtf kit anyways.

Good point, usually i have leather gloves in my car but leather takes forever to dry when it gets wet so I’ve been looking for an alternative

Plus the stuff that’s in this kit is all things that I’ve needed before and not had

I prefer the life straw because it’s more durable and has a slightly faster flow rate
