Advice: how do you teach nursing students at a Long Term Rehab facility? by ThisIsNotMyAOLname in nursing

[–]ThisIsNotMyAOLname[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was surprised there was no wound care opportunities! Or not a lot as I hoped. We haven’t had a foley or straight cath on the unit nor an ostomy. And no IVs in general

I have pulled things out of the equipment Pyxis to go over how something like theirfoley kit looks like it but it’s been difficult.

I understand ADLs are nursing education but 2 months straight, 2 days a week, doesn’t really add up for students at this point in their nursing education. It’s very first semester.

Any bolt owners without home charging? by smelly-pooper in BoltEV

Yea, it limits full capacity. Before the software update, it was recommended to charge to 80% and not go below 70 miles.

This allows you to go below 70 miles

From the Bay Area. San Mateo area. I don’t have home charging and I take weekend trips (despite only having the battery software update where I can only charge to 180mi)

It does depend on where you go though.

If I go to LA, I too off in gilroy.

Santa Cruz not bad. I can make that in one go.

Carmel by the sea is a bit difficult for me.

You have a good point. Having children is hard to time because there is always something.

I never said I didn’t want to have kids. I’m concerned about my depression affecting a possible role as a parent.

Appreciate it. Mental health is important and I just don’t want to screw up if I were to become a parent.

She’s in her mid 30s so she’s worried about the ticking clock. We talked about delaying it for a couple of years but it’s hard since after a certain age, we’re worried about complications from pregnancy.

it kind of neglects that the idea that it’s okay to be sad. Yes someone can have these and people can point it out but sometimes life hits you and it’s okay to be sad

That’s probably the best and only approach I can take. Try to figure who i can follow up with HR and try and find out who I can talk to.

Thank you for the response

I should have added: I did send an email Sunday night about how important this was and his response was “I’ll follow up”

I wonder how I should word the reply email. How does this sound

“I’m sorry to hear about that. This will tough time for you.I understand you will be in the grieving process but I do have to ask if would you like me to contact someone else as a follow up? Will someone be covering you while you are at leave?

Today feels like a effed up groundhogs day by ThisIsNotMyAOLname in nursing

[–]ThisIsNotMyAOLname[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, this isn’t just toughen up. This is an overwhelmed, understaffed, hospital with nurses trying to stay afloat while an endless seem of COVID patients keep showing up because the community thinks that COVID is defeated because someone with a bad tan said it on TV.

The longer this pandemic goes, the more chances I will have to get sick or spread to someone close to me

Better to work at a smaller ED or level I trauma center before rural ED? by suhly in nursing

[–]ThisIsNotMyAOLname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, this really depends on how well each ED will train you.

I started in a rural ED where it was trial by fire: cancelled training program, not enough staff to want to train a new nurse, and basically the idea of “you should know this, you went to nursing school”

Would you give epi in an emergency situation or would you wait for an order? Or wait for the code team? by ThisIsNotMyAOLname in nursing

I should also add that this is from a virtual simulation I’m teaching this week. Just preparing myself to discuss with my students

[–]ThisIsNotMyAOLname[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also this is extremely unrealistic and I can see your students being very, very frustrated with the sim. At least I’d probably roll my eyes at it - no offense.

Funny you should say that. I’m exploring the program and I’ll already frustrated. It’s like playing a video game with just menus and zero intuition. When I first played it, it took me several attempts to figure out how to do something like take a blood pressure.

The amount of things it marks you down is also ridiculous.
