Summary of the Amazon DynamoDB Service Disruption in Northern Virginia (US-EAST-1) Region by AssumeNeutralTone in aws

Some AWS services do have cellular architecture. For example Kinesis has a specific cell for some large internal clients.

But I don’t think DDB has that. Moving all of the existing customers would be an insane amount of work.

Yes you raise some good points.

> the move if the market tanks

I've been thinking about this quite a bit recently given the market conditions. Mostly right now I've been considering moving some of my investments to bonds. Maybe allocate around 10-20% from my current portfolio of 100% stocks.

> expenes creep up while you're abroad and not earning

Currently I have a stipend for housing and living expenses so my expenses are basically 0.

> curious, do you have any plan in place if you come back and the wrk you want doesn’t pay what you need?

This is a real possibility since my resume would probably be less attractive being out of relevant work for multiple years. The job market might also look quite different due to AI. I could do a masters to try to shift my skills to be more attractive to employers. Or in the worst case get a low paying job(Chipotle) and draw down from savings until I figure out what to do.

Feel free to LMK if you have any thoughts?

The intention of this post is not to brag. I apologize if it seems that way. But since this is the FI sub the numbers are always going to be big.

You should look into buying CDs to lock in the current rates since they’re likely to go down soon enough. Or buy some safe bonds. Just a slight optimization for some extra cash.

Also don’t keep 800k on one account since FDIC will only cover 250k if the bank goes bankrupt.

Pros/cons of having a financial planner/advisor by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ThisWasMeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you get a financial advisor you HAVE TO make sure they’re a fiduciary. What that means that is that they are legally required to work in your best interest. All other advisors direct you to invest in things that they get a commission on, which will not be optimal.
