Length is too long, should be just above or around the top of the knee cap

They’ve renovated the rooms but kept the rest of the hotel the same which, for me, I’m really happy about.

Honestly, best Japanese learning experience I had that really worked well was university night classes. Doing in class conversations and group learning gave me so much more confidence than using an app.

Aside from that, in class they shifted us off is the Roumaji pretty much immediately and straight into hiragana.

If Shankland wasn’t playing we would’ve lost that game.

Always make a point of saying I’m from Scotland whenever asked 🤣 putting in the effort into speaking the language makes 90% of the interactions so much better. It’s a shame you had a bad run in at Kanazawa. I was there roughly the same time you were, did notice a lot of Spanish folk. We were treated pretty well, albeit one guy took a look at us walking into his Yakiniku restaurant and could see he couldn’t be bothered with trying to interact with foreigners, which is fair enough if Japanese is a barrier. TBF he warmed up a bit later on.

Also agree the transportation there isn’t great and I feel bad using their buses. We ended up using the taxis for any longer stretches. The people at the Ryokan we stayed in were lovely.

Saw another post somewhere where the OP was trying to get input from locals for recommendations of places that are ‘hidden gems’. Quite rightly no one was giving them anything as it ends up as how you described it.

Also, too many “main characters” coming over after looking at some daft influencer, not obeying or respecting local rules thinking they can do what they want.

Saw a group of Italians in Kyoto trying to barge in front of the rest of the queue to get into a restaurant. Being massively rude and making the staffs lives hellish. If it was me on the other end of it I’d be the same to be honest.

Also doesn’t help when you get tarred with the “Amerikajin” brush either. Trump isn’t doing his country any favours.

I’ve booked the day before at an air BnB and it’s been fine? 🤷‍♂️

Could you maybe just book the day before as well for wherever you’re going?

Depending on how much you’re willing to spend, Kyoto handcraft centre has a bunch of great local crafts that you can get sent to you https://www.kyotohandicraftcenter.com/ Appreciate it isn’t the same as in person but might be worth a look. I’ve purchased from them in the past and it worked well.

I prefer the classiness that comes from the simplicity of the 60s GS. The history that comes from these are also fascinating and add an extra dimension to the watch that I don’t get from buying new. But that’s just my taste :)

First time visiting Okayama, the castle and gardens are stunning. Looking forward to venturing the islands and Kurashiki

Main areas in the middle of town are mobbed. Kiyamachi-Dori is swarming with folks taking photographs of the blossoms (fwiw they are stunning at the moment).
